Heathrow shopping?
We're leaving from Los Angeles tomorrow for Kenya and Tanzania. We'll have a four and a half hour layover at Heathrow. Not enough time to go into the city, but too long to do nothing. I haven't been in Heathrow for about 8 years now, and never for a layover, so I have no idea if there's any shopping or other diversion there. We certainly would like to do something besides sit, given that we will have been sitting for hours with hours more to come. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Well, 4 hours is not all that long and you will probably only have about 2+ hours to kill. A lot of time is used up by the long walks from the gates, changing terminals, etc
But even if you did have a full 4 hours there is lots of great shopping and many places to eat.
There are branches of Harrods, Burberry, Chanel, Liberty and many other high end boutiques - plus all the normal duty free emporia, plus souvenir shops, etc. you won't have a problem filling your time.

I was stuck at Seville airport for nearly five hours, and they have one miserable duty free shop. I'm sure you'll survive Heathrow. I'd recommend booking an executive lounge if you haven't already got lounge access via other means.
