Heathrow shopping?

We're leaving from Los Angeles tomorrow for Kenya and Tanzania. We'll have a four and a half hour layover at Heathrow. Not enough time to go into the city, but too long to do nothing. I haven't been in Heathrow for about 8 years now, and never for a layover, so I have no idea if there's any shopping or other diversion there. We certainly would like to do something besides sit, given that we will have been sitting for hours with hours more to come. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Good news for you..Heathrow looks like a shopping mall :) That's how a friend of mine defined it to me , I've never been there :)

Well, 4 hours is not all that long and you will probably only have about 2+ hours to kill. A lot of time is used up by the long walks from the gates, changing terminals, etc

But even if you did have a full 4 hours there is lots of great shopping and many places to eat.

There are branches of Harrods, Burberry, Chanel, Liberty and many other high end boutiques - plus all the normal duty free emporia, plus souvenir shops, etc. you won't have a problem filling your time.

I was stuck at Seville airport for nearly five hours, and they have one miserable duty free shop. I'm sure you'll survive Heathrow. I'd recommend booking an executive lounge if you haven't already got lounge access via other means.

Just don't compare ! Seville is a little airport as is Valencia or Bilbao. I'm looking at Stansted and, despite it has some more shops, it's not at all like Heathrow :)

Berry Bros & Rudd wine shop is in Heathrow as well as Harrods and I seem to remember buying something from Liberty of London also..
There is definitely something to do in Heathrow :) Enjoy~

Mulberry, darling, if you have deep pockets.

Are the prices better than the stores in the city?

Scarlett Jun 26th, 2005 07:11 PM

I thought the prices were the same, no?

Patty Jun 26th, 2005 09:14 PM

The prices are VAT free, so we were able to save some money on identical items that we saw in the London branches of the same store by purchasing them at Heathrow instead. The selection is more limited though.

Thank you, All. I appreciate your input and am looking forward to some good diversion. I'll probably stake some things out to be picked up during our 5 hour layover on the way home. Many thanks. Barbara
