Gathwick Shopping???

We are flying in and out of Gathwick instead of Heathrow - I've read there's great shopping in the airport at Heathrow - does anyone know about Gathwick??? Thanks

Gatwick has "Gatwick Village" which for an airport does offer good shopping. Certainly the times I have been through both airports I would actually prefer shopping at Gatwick to Heathrow. I am not sure what you are looking for in airport shopping - I dont think I have yet been to an airport that would be considered a "shopping destination", but I have picked up, for example, some very nice sandals at Gatwick while waiting for my outbound flight.

Note that at Gatwick the shops are BEFORE you go through to departures, and thus accessible to the general public. At Heathrow most shops are AFTER departures.

Hope this helps, and have a great trip

Sorry read the last line as "at Heathrow most shops are AFTER check-in etc, in the controlled zone area"

It's a myth that there's great shopping at Heathrow. I can't understand why people rave about the shopping there. If you like poor selection and high prices, then maybe you'd enjoy the shopping at Heathrow. But otherwise, save your shopping for just about anywhere else.

I flew out of Gatwick in September and seem to remember shopping quite a bit and wishing I'd waited to buy the little "souvenir" things until the end of the trip so that I didn't have to lug them around. There's a Harrod's mini-store, a large souvenir shop with all things British, and a kids store that had great Bob the Builder and Harry Potter merchandise. Oh, and a Boots, plus a convenience store where I bought a ton of British candy bars for gifts for my co-workers. It was a great way to use up my last few pounds and pence!

Cheriegal,
At Gatwick there are shops that circle the common area where one waits for ones boarding gate to be announced. (This is after one has passed the security screening area.)
As mentioned in the above post, you'll find the mini Harrods, perfumes, liquor, nick nacks, books & magazines, a small music shop , and more.
