How much time do you have. Anything under 4 hours - 5 if you aren't from an EU country - and you'll be sweating bricks on whether you'll make the connection.
Easiest - and probably quickest - is National Express coach - it's all covered on the Heathrow & Gatwick airport websites under "to and from our airport"

providing your incoming flight is on time, then you should be fine. There are 3 or 4 buses an hour , and they take just over an hour on a weekend.
Assuming you need to be at Gatwick 2 hours before the flight, then you have plenty of leeway.

With that amount of time you could have a quick trip into London and it wouldn't cost any more than the coach fare between airports.
Assuming normal traffic you'd be in central London by 9:30am and would leave central London by midday.
Time enough for a walk from Westminster to Victoria via London Eye, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall, St James Park & Buckingham Palace
Get a 1 day travelcard at Heathrow Tube station, go to Hammersmith, cross the platform and take the next train to Victoria, dump your luggage (£6 per bag) at the left luggage office and take the Tube to Westminster. Take the BRIDGE STREET exit and have camera ready. Turn left and cross Thames to see the London Eye and depending on weather/queues either have a go on it or pass it by. Take the next bridge downstream back across the Thames and walk up to Trafalgar Square, turn left down Whitehall and have your photo taken with a lifeguard, then see where Tony used to live and the the alley past the Cabinet War Rooms into St James's Park, walk through park to Buckingham Palace, walk to Victoria Station, collect bags then take the SOUTHERN TRAINS service to Gatwick
