Backpacks that open sideways
Hi.
Can anyone suggest any brand names or models for backpacks that have a zipper that opens sideways (so it basically works like a suitcase )
I don't really like the backpacks that you have to stuff from top to the bottom as it's really hard to get your stuff out and clothes get all mashed up.
Thank you.

Eagle Creek comes to mind but most manufacturers do a range of "travelpacks".
Don't overfill them as if the zip goes the pack is useless & don't fill the stupid little zippered daypack unless you are using it as a daypack

LLBean has one that is supposed to be more comfortable for your back that opens on the side. It may be smaller than a standard one. I tried to do a tiny url but could not...maybe this one will open. http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/sto...p;feat=4520-tn

wiz0rd,
I'm not sure where you're located, but if you're looking for a large pack, outdoor equipment stores are best. In Canada, Mountain Equipment Co-op is very popular and they do mail-order. Their website is www.mec.ca. I have an Arc'teryx that has a side opening. I'm sure many other brands do also.

We just bought the Osprey brand convertable backpack. It has wheels and can also be used as a backpack if need be. It also opens sideways, has a detachable daypack and can be taken on the plane with you as it fits most carry on guidelines. (22x14x9) We have used Jansport backpacks for over a decade but recently my back went out (I sprained it) and with a month long trip to Europe in the near future I really didn't want to risk the same thing happening again so I bought the Osprey Meridian from REI.

Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI), with nationwide stores has big travel packs. The only problem is so did some other American. He picked up my pack in Beijing and I didn't get it back for 10 days. Meanwhile I had to replace everything including the pack for a 2 month trip.
