Athens - need hotel recommendation
We are thinking to be the last week of December in Athens. We want to visit the city and its museums, to take some day tours out of Athens, to spend one or two evenings in a tavern and to celebrate New Year Eve in a nice restaurant, if possible with live music.
We want to have a hotel (~ 100 Euro/ night - double room) in the center of the city (to be close to the main attractions). Can you recommend a good hotel?
Can you recommend a restaurant for New Year Eve?
Thank you.

Have a look at http://www.amazonhotel.gr I enjoyed my stay in 2008 and love the location. It's just steps from Syntagma to get to and from the airport and steps in the other direction to the Plaka. I was lucky enough to get an Acropolis view room. I notice the prices for December are not on their site but an email should get you a quote...

It is too early for recommending a nice restaurant for New Year Eve.
They usually have a set menu, price varies from 40 and can go up to 300 Euro depending on the restaurant.
At the moment it is too early to make any arrangements, all offers are being published usually in the beginning of December. ( or in best case end of Nov)
December in Athens is the deepest point of the low season, all hotels are going to be available.
Have a look at www.booking.com , they already have rates for this period of the year. Saw a very good rate for the Melia Hotel Athens, compared to their regular rate. Keep in mind that prices can only go down, it is too early to make a booking yet, as probably prices are going to change again.

We booked through www.otel.com (not hotel) for about 100USD/nite.

You are welcome, Valtor.
When you leave the hotel, turn left. On the corner is a tourist train that will take you on a tour of Athens for a reasonable price.
Across the street from the hotel are 6-8 pleasant, inexpensive restaurants.
Enjoy your visit.
