ATHENS HOTELS CHEAP-ISH!

PLEASE!!
CAN ANYONE HELP? WE ARE GOING TO TRAVEL TO THE GREEK ISLANDS FOR A MONTH FROM END MAY BUT WOULD LIKE TO STAY IN ATHENS FOR A COUPLE OF NIGHTS TO SEE THE SIGHTS. WE WILL BE ON A RATHER TIGHT BUDGET AND REALISE THAT CITY HOTELS ARN`T CHEAP BUT THE ONLY ONE I CAN FIND REASONABLY PRICED ARE IN OMONIA AREA AND WOULD NOT WANT TO STAY THERE HAVING READ REPORTS.
HAS ANYONE ANY SUGGESTIONS OF HOTELS THAT ARE AROUND 50 -60 EURO PER NIGHT IN A DECENT AREA. I REALISE I AM ASKING A LOT BUT IT IS DRIVING ME MAD TRYING TO FIND SOMEWHERE, ALMOST FEEL LIKE GIVING IT A MISS!
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE TO ANYONE WHO CAN HELP.

I think you are going to have a tough time finding something in that range, but you already know that. If you can up your budget a bit, I can recommend the Hotel Nefeli in the Plaka area. It looks like the end of May the rooms are 69-79€ double.

Their website is : http://www.hotel-nefeli.com/

We stayed their last July on our way to the islands for one night and then on the return for 2 nights. It is in a great location and the people working there couldn't have been nicer or more helpful.

If you don't find something in your price range, I would just stay in Omonia rather than miss Athens. It is not the best, but better than not going at all (I thought Athens was great). Enjoy your trip !

Use this site as you can define by area,
http://www.eurocheapo.com/search
Put in Athens, Greece, the dates you require then tick the areas of Plaka, Koukaki, Monastiraki & Psyrri down the left hand side. Once you have found any within your budget for your dates ask again with the choices as some that put themselves in Monastiraki & Psyrri are actually in or close to Omonia!
I know the location of just about all of them, so I will check back to see if I can help you further.

chrisskin you can only get Omonia I think for under 60€. If you can go up a bit --- try Hotels Metropolis, Phaedra, and HOtel Myrto Akropolis ... all in that 65-80€ price range, all madly convenient, ;in Plaka. Also Hotel Phidias, HOtel Phillipos, In Makrigianni (next to Plaka, just south of Acropolis). Hotel Diaskouros, in Plaka, a student favorite. I suggest to e mail ALL of them, not just filling a form but writing an e-mail letter, saying I'm looking for a double @60 for xx nights (give dates) what do you have??

Jan, you can get a good location for the money, I had Metropolis booked with ensuite for EASTER at €50 (we are now staying at the Astor though). It really does depend on dates, some huge differences at some hotels, others fairly stable throughout the year.

Check: Hotel Tempi, Metropolis Hotel, Hotel Omiros, Hotel Fivos.

The cheapest hotel I know is John's Place Hotel. I paid €35 for a single. They're at #5 Patroou Street, just off Metropolios Street and 5-10 minutes' walk from Syntagma Square, but they don't have a website. You have to call them. 30-210-322-9719

I have often considered that one BLL! It's next door to the Athos & I've been meaning to go & take a look when I've been sitting at Aspro Alogo or Peristeri having a drink!

It's a nice old converted house with some great woodwork, although it does need some TLC. My room was very basic and it didn't have its own toilet or shower, although it did have a sink. I just wish they'd at least use a booking service if they don't want to do it themselves. But I guess the price would go up then......

Another really inexpensive one is Hotel Kouros, on Koudrou street just before it joins Kydathinion ... no lobby, just steps up ... continual stream of rather scruffy backpackers coming in/out. Also no e-mail, and not always someone on desk. Shared WC also.

Acropolis House, also on Koudrou, has a FEW rooms on top floor which are un-renovated that go for about 60€ ... but don't compare with MUCH nicer alternatives already llisted. Another one, across from it, Hotel Adonis, USED to be very reasonable (used it in the past), but they just kept raising the prices (up to 90€ off-season) with no improvement in amenities and very hard beds.
