Athens hotels

I'm trying to select a hotel in Athens for a two-night stay in October. I know that we would like to be in the Plaka area and in close walking distance to everything since we're in Athens for such a short time before heading to Santorini. I've done a lot of reasearch on hotels, but was hoping to get some comments or suggestions before making a final decision.

We don't want anything too expensive (under 200 euros) since we're splurging to stay at Katikies in Santorini! From web sites and reviews on trip advisor, I've narrowed my choices down to the Hotel Plaka, the Ava Hotel, and the Electra Palace. Has anyone stayed at any of these places? The Electra is about 50 euros more expensive than the Hotel Plaka - is it worth it in terms of comfort or amenities?

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated - thanks!

I was very happy with Hotel Plaka and would stay there again. Make sure to ask for a room with a view of the Parthenon.

Let me be the first to recommend the Attalos Hotel -- Rates for the high season is $96E/night. We stayed there in 2003 and enjoyed the rooftop bar where you could see the Acropolis while sipping an inexpensive beer at the end of a long day.

The staff were OUTSTANDING, the rooms are basic but clean and fairly spacious, and the location is great. We had a lovely time there.

Here's the site:

Happy travels.

I'll apologize for my bad grammar above. It does pay to proofread before you hit "POST"...may I also suggest you do a search for "Athens Plaka Hotel" and see what you get on this site...there's been plenty of discussion.

Thanks for the responses PM and Jules. I'll definitely take a look at the Attalos as well.

Wondering if anyone has heard anything about the Ava Hotel - it's one that I haven't seen any discussion about on here.

I just saw the AVA hotel's reviews on tripadvisor and it sounds great. We had been planning on Hotel Adrian in the Plaka but we might spring for the AVA instead. We don't go until April 2006 so our review will be too late to help you. Do post pack if you hear anything about it though

Have a great trip!!!
