Air India to London???

I can get a really cheap airfare from NYC to London, only thing is it's on Air India. Anyone have any experience with this airline? Is it safe? The only thing I remember is that some years ago an Air India flight disappeared over the Atlantic. Turns out it was blown up. Any thoughts?

Air India is a good airline. It has as good a safety record as most and better than many.

Safety is not the problem; reliability is. Last year I booked an inexpensive flight on Air India (JFK-LHR) through Travelocity. Air India cancelled the flight, and Travelocity did everything in their power NOT to refund my money, even though Air India proved to me via photocopy that they had repaid Travelocity. In short, one just doesn't know if a particular flight is going to fill up enough to merit Air India's actually going ahead with it. And if you're booking through an intermediary, you're doubling your chances of aggravation.

Good Luck

Gerry K

Used them out of Chicago in 1999 for one reason - cheapness. Wouldn't use them again if I could afford to. It was the smell and hygiene of my fellow passengers that was the worst - the were fine and the flight I took left late but arrived on time.

Gerry: That is too bad about your flight. But it would seem your real beef is with Travelocity. Any airline can have a cancelled flight but it is rare. But to have the agent not issue a refund is terrible.

You can get the same cheap fares directly from Air India w/o going through travelocity.

You're absolutely right, Janis. Travelocity lost me as a customer, and I was a VERY good one. Now I use them for research, and book hotels and flights directly. However, I've learned recently that carriers like Air India that fly few flights between specific destinations are most inclined to cancel those flights. (I don't know that that is statistically factual though)

Gerry K

Adam Hayden

This person is full of self hate. He endlessly projects that hatred toward strangers. Ask him about it and he acts like it is nothing. Definitely psychopathic.

Interesting how a simple board, dedicated to travel advice, can draw a sociopathological person like Adam Hayden but then people doing nice, pleasant, enjoyable, normal things like travelling, irritates him to no end.

You are dealing with a psychopath when you interact with Adam Hayden. Do a search for air India, and you will find lots of responses. Most of them negative, I am afraid.

Get over yourself Dr Freud before someone labels you a "quack" or reports you for practicing without a license.
