3 star hotel advice for Zermatt?
I am looking for any and all tips on moderate hotels in Zermatt.
Which location in the town would be best for a weeklong stay (during ski season) that would allow easy access to all the lifts and are there any hotels that we should avoid? Is the Matterhorn view from the room window worth the extra cost? The 3 star designation simply applies to the high end of our budget. One place that keeps coming up is the Butterfly Hotel. Is that a good choice?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Good morning, Steffan Had a room at the Monte Rose on our second trip into Zermatt and the view of the Matterhorn
was perfect and very rememberable, about 25 years. Another place is to view the Matterhorn from the deck of the hotel/ristorante at Schwarzersee.
The HOTEL JULEN a 3 star otel with 27
rooms has been mentioned favorably on
this board in the past, check into that
hotel, beleive alsosome of the their rooms face the Matterhorn. it is located about half way between the Bahnhof and the bottom station for the
gondolas goingup to Furi and the cable
cars....Richard of LaGrange Park, IL.

We just stayed two nights at Casa Vanessa, which is near the cable car to Furi and the Scwarzsee. They are usually a week-long rental (apartment-type lodging), but we were there in the low season (10/2-3) and they gave us two nights for CHF150, including a good breakfast. The room we had was actually three...bedroom, bath, and a kitchenette/TV room with a couple of additional chairs and a table. Very clean, very helpful. You can check out their website...they may have less services in the winter season, and certainly are on the opposite end of town from the GGB and main train station, but then again, Zermatt isn't that big! We even had a Matterhorn view!
