1-star & 2-star Hotels in Positano?
We are budget travelers and I came across a list of 1- and 2-star hotels in Positano. We are hoping to get something for less than 90euros/night in September. We spend more time away from our hotel then in it, but we still like a central, clean, and safe place. I have not been able to find websites or online pictures of them all. Has anyone stayed at these or know where I could find more info on them? Any preferences?

CALIFORNIA RESIDENCE
IL GABBIANO
LA BOUGANVILLE
LE SIRENE
SANTA CATERINA
CASA GUADAGNO
MARIA LUISA
VILLA DELLE PALME
VILLA VERDE
Ira, Le Sirene looks amazing! Do you know how long it takes to get to Positano or how easy it is to get between the two towns? We want to eat late dinners in Positano and have a safe trek back to our hotel (we do not have a car and only use public transportation).

Check on the Trip Advisor > www.tripadvisor.com for any reviews or comments on these hotels. I do know that the California & La Bougainville are Rick Steves' recommendations; look on the "graffitti wall" of his website for feedback > www.ricksteves.com
I've walked by the Bougainville and it looks okay from the outside; good location. I don't remember whether they having balconies. One of the pleasures of staying in Positano is being in a hotel with a view; ideally a balcony where you can sit with your morning capuccino overlooking the bay or at night, to gaze up at the stars.

Yes, Ira, when it comes to Positano it's all about the view. I'm not one who spends alot of time hanging out in the hotel room, but a balcony is a must-have in my opinion. I can close my eyes and remember what it felt like to sit on my balcony eating breakfast at the Villa Rosa; the smell of lemons wafting in the air, the deep azure blue of the bay in the distance. Or when staying at La Fenice and listening to the waves crash against the rocks below ...

Beckonbecky, one other place to check is Hotel La Reginella --- http://www.venere.com/it/positano/lareginella/ They list prices of 90 euros during low season & 140 euros for high; they probably charge higher price during September, but it's worth a try. Haven't stayed here, but they do have pictures on the site and balconies overlooking the water.
You probably don't want to stay in Sorrento, but just in case, try a search for Palazzo Starace, a B&B overlooking the main street, 5 min walk to the train/bus station. Budget priced, very clean, quite spacious, balcony, pressure in the shower wasn't great, also 3 flights of marble stairs to reach the rooms. We'd stay there again, loved the view down the main drag and people-watching!
Kay
