rainy days on Alaskan cruise
We are sailing on June 12 out of Vancouver on Island Princess. There are showers on the forecast for the entire week....bummer! Any recommendation for rainy day activities at port? Does Princess give refund for the cancelled excursions(whalewatching, glacier helicopter tour....etc) due to weather condition?

Many tours still go in the rain, including the flights, they will cancel only based on visability. Most all other tours go anyway, whale watching will never be canceled due to rain.
I suggest you bring decent rain gear and go with your tours that are still running.

We went with HAL on the same cruise last June and had rain every day. Of course, everyone let us know how the two week previous were sunny, beautiful weather! We did have a great time, tho', our helicopter tour was canceled due to fog (we were reimbursed) but we wore raincoats and made the best of it...had so much fun. Watch out for the jewelry in the ports...when you're getting in from the rain you may get caught up in buying much of their jewelry...which in the states in so much cheaper. Have a great time!

Just got back from the trip. The weather turned out much nicer than we expected. Had some drizzles here and there but didn't affect our excursions at all. Alaska is so beautiful. Can't wait to go back again!

You'll need formal dress or pantsuit for a couple nights on the ship.
A very warm jacket if you're taking helicopter excursion and landing on the icefield or glaciers.
A wind breaker for glacier viewing on the deck of your ship.
Layers is the best way to go because it may get warm when the sun comes out, and the ship is heated inside.
Shower caps were not available on Island Princess, so bring your own if you'll need them.
Extra batteries for digital camera.
Motion sickness pills because it got a little rough from Glacier Bay to College Fjords. Don't know if you are going this route on HAL but just in case.
Don't forget rain gears just in case....and bring a good pair of binoculars, if you have one, to get a good view of "calving" of the glaciers, and whales which you'll be able to see from the ship in Glacier Bay.
