Monsoon Season - leaving this week

We are traveling to SGN on Thurs and planning on going to SGN, Hanoi and Halong Bay as we only have 8 days on the ground. As this is monsoon season, is a trip to Halong Bay useless? I am unclear just how much rain there is going to be. Any attraction we should avoid due to rain? Mekong Delta? We are basically there from Sept 1-8 and would love any advice on how to enjoy Vietnam in the rain.

Thanks!

I just left Singapore yesterday and it was pouring. I'm in BK now and it's cloudy and has been raining, but not pouring. This is one of the times of the year that I come and in the past I've been lucky and haven't had the rain/gloominess as I'm having now.The rain hasn't been a problem though. So I think the region in general must be rainy right now. Happy Travels!

Raining cats & dogs in HCMC right now. You can't control the weather, so why worry about it? It doesn't rain everyday and it generally doesn't rain all day either. Buy yourself a plastic rain poncho or small umbrella when you get here and just have fun. The rain at least helps take some of the heat away.

Thanks everyone. We arent actually concerned about the rain, but more interested in what sites are pointless due to the rain. For instance, it could be in monsoon that Halong Bay is just fog and a waste of time. Or I read that Mekong Delta could be hard to get to. We certainly plan on enjoying ourselves in spite of the rain, but wasnt sure if there is anything special we should account for during this season. Or is it just rainy life as usual? We are very excited! Thanks for any info you can provide.
