St. Kitts & Nevis Honeymoon?
My fiance' and I are getting married in November and looking to spend our honeymoon in St. Kitts & Nevis. We want to relax and enjoy the scenery but we also want some adventure too. I'm looking for suggestions as to where to stay? What sites to see?
We are also interested in hiking, sailing, snorkeling, etc...Is it best to plan this trip ourselves or get help from a travel agent? Any adivce will help!

Visit the following web-sites and click on the various links to hotels, resorts, restaurants, attractions, sights, etc. You'll find a wealth of information about both islands. You can then begin to narrow your choices on places to stay and things to do and see.
www.nevis1.com and www.geographia.com/guestbook/kittsnevis/
If you are a first time traveler you might find it easier to use a TA but it really is a matter of personal preference.

Dblebee, We looked at Ottley's plantation and from the website it looks fabulous. The only downfall is that its not on a beach. We like the looks of the Golden Lemon and what they have to offer but nothing is set in stone. Can you recommend any other hotels or inns?

If you want to be on a beach, you might also want to look at Nisbet Plantation on Nevis. They offer a variety of packages from which to choose, and they are rated quite highly by Caribbean travel writer, Ian Keown, who writes the travel guide, "Caribbean Hideaways." I'll be spending a couple of nights there myself this November after spending a few nights at a different hotel on Nevis that is on the mountainside. Maybe I'll see you there! I don't think you could go wrong with either Golden Lemon or Nisbet for a beachfront stay in St. Kitts & Nevis. You could also divvy up a stay between the two, or spend a few nights at one of the non-beachfront plantation inns (Like Ottley's, Rawlins, or Montpelier) and a few nights beachfront. There's also the Four Season on Nevis, which is supposed to be lovely, that is on the beach.

Don't make your choice based on whether the place is on the beach. The beach at the Golden Lemon is not much. Neither is the one at Nisbet. Some of the best properties on St. Kitts and Nevis are away from the beach.
There is a new package offered by Montpelier and Nisbet that offers you a combined stay. You might want to look into that.

I wouldn't be concerned with the fact that Ottleys is not on the beach. Quite frankly, I don't think you'll be very happy with Golden Lemon's beach (although it's a fantastic inn). It's not very clean, the water is much rougher and there's really just not that much beach. If you enjoy beaches, I think you'll be disappointed w/ the one at Golden Lemon. Ottleys is one of the most beautiful inns in the Caribbean. The owners are charming and cater to every need. The restaurant is fantastic. And it's not a long drive from many places -- it's kind of centrally located. The best beaches are on the Southern peninsula of St. Kitts -- the negative: it's about a 20 minute ride from Ottleys... but it's a beautiful ride and there's no traffic between Ottleys and the beaches. I believe Ottleys provides transportation, although I find driving on St. Kitts to be a lot of fun -- it's an incredible island to drive around -- lots of monkeys and spectacular views, great sunsets, etc. Also, at Golden Lemon (and Rawlins for that matter), you are much, much farther from the good beaches. They're both very far north, although whenever I visit St. Kitts, I make sure to have lunch at both (the lunch at Rawlins is amazing). I found St. Kitts to be perfect for hiking. I did both the rainforest tour (decent, not much of a hike) and the volcano tour (very strenous but an incredible experience and great views). Brimstone Hill provides magnificent views and a decent workout just getting up the stairs to the top. Snorkeling is incredible on the southern peninsula (Friars Bay, White House Bay and Turtle Beach). Also, a great spot for sailing. Frankly, I think you can book everything on your own, without a travel agent. That's what I've always done. Also, although I typically stay in the Frigate Bay area, I think Ottleys is by far the best place to stay on the island and ideal for a honeymoon.

In terms of suggestions, I would recommend visiting Caribelle Batik/Romney Manor (kind of a historical sight and interesting clothing/fabrics made at Caribelle Batik. Definitely visit Brimstone Hill for the views of the island. You can see Saba, St. Eustatius and sometimes other islands on perfectly clear day. A rainforest hike or volcano hike is worth doing. Just driving around the island is fascinating -- you're always driving along the coast, always great scenes, and it takes less than 2 hours to drive around the entire island. It's not the most adventurous island, but I think it's the most picturesque in the Caribbean. Although you'd probably eat most of your meals at Ottleys, Rawlins has an amazing lunch every day, and there are many other very good restaurants on the island -- lots of native dishes and tons of fresh seafood. For food, I'd also recommend Rawlins, Golden Lemon (both are somewhat inconveniently located on the north coast), Fisherman's Wharf, Sprat Net (no style at all... just picnic tables, but incredible seafood), Island Spice & Marshalls, just to name a few. South Friars Bay, Frigate Bay and Turtle Beach offer the best beaches. Turtle Beach has a great bar/restaurant and the food is fantastic. The snorkeling at White House Bay is amazing, although it's not really a beach. South Friars Bay has great snorkeling too, and right off the beach. Snorkeling at Turtle Beach is hit or miss (b/c the water can be a little murkier), but it's a great spot to see smaller turtles in the water). I've never sailed there, but you cannot help but notice numbers of sailboats from the beaches & roads. There's golf and a casino at the Marriott (which is new). There's plenty to do to prevent yourself from getting bored, but when you want to simply relax in amazing surroundings, Ottleys is definitely the place. As far as renting a car, I recommend it (as opposed to always relying upon Ottleys) but driving on St. Kitts is not the easiest -- roads are narrow and driving is on the right. But you can typically rent from Thrifty/TDC for about $240/week. If there are any other specific questions I can answer, feel free to ask. I've been there a handful of times and love it.

b2b: I was browsing online today and noticed that Nisbet and Montpelier Plantations on Nevis are running a joint special. You get a few nights at each place, along with daily breakfast & dinner, a couples massage, and a car rental for the time you're at Montpelier. I thought this might interest you for your honeymoon, as you would get the best of the beach offerings as well as the old Caribbean hospitality of the plantation. Are you any closer to making a decision?
