Ocho Rios with 14month old and9 year old
My family is going on our first cruise in june. We will only be in Ocho Rios for one day. We are traveling with a 9 year old and a 14 month old. We like to explore but we have safety concerns here.Is our best bet to go to a hotel beach?Anyone have any ideas on which one? Is there a safe beach to go to with the kids? I would appreciate any ideas.
Thanks,Nicole

You might go to the resort Jamaica Renaissance Grande in Ocho Rios. While it is not a resort I would recommend to stay at, the resort is great for kids. There is a wonderful pool and the resort attracts families so your child will have plenty to do. Beach there is so-so but very calm waters.

The Jamaica Grande is right across the bay from where your ship will dock. When I stayed there, I noticed the guard approaching people who were not guests at the resort and escorting them to purchase a day pass. I believe this entitles you to all their facilities. You might want to contact the Ren. Jamaica Grande just to ask what they recommend. The straw market is within walking distance from the resort also.

You may also look into staying at Fisherman's POint which is just down the beach from Renaissance Jamaica Grande. FP is a condominium complex resort. The apartments are very roomy for a family. It shares the same beach with RJG and is closer to the docks.

You might consult Carolyn Barrett for ideas on things to do, beaches to visit, she does cruise ship day trips (private tours) all the time:
