Going to Tortola on Saturday - last minute questions
Hi all! Leaving on Saturday and I'm so excited!!!
Does anyone know how much it costs currently for taxi from the airport to the Long Bay area? I found a website with gvmt rates but it says at the top that they are out of date, and they can't get new ones.
Also, does anyone know what kind of services are in walking distance of Long Bay Beach Resort? i.e. are there any atms, shops, etc?

I want to say that a taxi to Cane Garden Bay for one person is around $35. Long Bay is a bit closer, so it would be a bit less.
Long Bay itself is pretty full service, with restaurants, a little gift shop, etc.
If you want at ATM, there's one at Soper's Hole and one in Cane Garden Bay, neither of which is walking distance unless you're a real walker. But they are both a short cab ride away. Ditto with grocery stores.
Tortola is wonderful - have a great time! (I'll be on Jost van Dyke in 23 days!)

I did my daysail on my first trip with Patouche too! They are awesome!!
And I second lovethecape on Smuggler's - absolutely beautiful -- if you're up for a walk, you can do that from Long Bay. And there are some little food and drink vendors there. Good snorkeling too!

Ok, another question that I meant to ask earlier and forgot to - will there be taxis there at the airport already or do we need to arrange for one to meet us? When we flew into Exuma the hotel sent one to meet us, and I didn't see any others around. But I am suspecting Tortola is quite a bit bigger and will have taxis there already?

There were taxis at the airport when we arrived. Certain taxi drivers tend to work with a specific resort. We did not arrange anything with Long Bay before we arrived but taxi folks at the airport asked where we were going and they directed us to a taxi driver that usually handles Long Bay.
We rented a car at the resort but driving is pretty challenging, especialy at night.
There are a number of restuarants a short drive from Long Bay. Its pretty hilly and dark at night so it wouldn't be an easy walk. Palm's Delight, super casual, waterview, famous for a chicken dish (I think it's ginger chicken). We loved Sebastians for breakfast. I think it would be fine for dinner too. Coco Plums is also nearby. We had a nice meal there. For a splurge, the Sugar Mill is also in the area. Pussers at Soper Hole is good to for Painkillers and appetizers. We were only there for 5 days so we didn't really explore Roadtown.
The best source for Tortola is the bvi online board.

There will be plenty of taxi drivers all actively soliciting your business at the airport. My favorite is Kessler, if you can find him.
I actually love driving on Tortola, and it's fun to rent a car for at least a day so you can explore other parts of the island. The world's best
Don't miss a day trip to Jost van Dyke - and depending on your timing and the effects of sand gravity, you can do day trips to Anegada or Virgin Gorda.
