Three days on Tortola

Early November my husband and I will be on Tortola in the BVI prior to a week's sail out of Soper's Hole. Any idea how best to spend these 3 days?? What to see, do on the island, and best, reasonable place to stay? (Have heard Lambert Beach Resort is nice, but has a beach with killer waves..??)

Also, have read messages re GUANA. Would it be feasible to go there for a couple of nights instead of staying on Tortola? Is it difficult to get there and back?? Thanks for any suggestions!

Can't help you with hotel suggestions except to say that I explored the option of the Sugar Mill Hotel, LOng Bay Resort, and Icis Villas when I was researching a short stay on Tortola. Guana is absolutely doable for two nights, and it's a shorter ride from the boat dock on Beef Island to Guana than a taxi ride to the west end would be. It's pricey, however, and may be more than the "reasonable place to stay" that you would like to pay. It's a wonderful, incomparable place however, and I dream of returning. Hope you have a wonderful time on your sail!

You could also take a look a The Tamarind Club , definitely in the reasonable category I think . Great little places are Rhymers , and Quitos in Cane Garden Bay . Faith

I would definitely visit Smuggler's Cove and Cane Garden Bay (try to do the latter when there aren't too many cruise ship visitors around). Maybe also Brewer's Bay for snorkeling.

There are some small, modest hotels in the Cane Garden area.

Coconut Point is excellent and very reasonable. Right down the road from Bomba's in Carrot Bay. Close to the West End and Soper's Hole.

Good rental car in the West End is Denzil Clynes. Great Service!

Also, Sebastians is very convenient...right at the foot of Zion Hill.

Peace, Greenie

Thanks for all for your responses. Question for Greenie: is Carrot Bay fairly quiet? Coconut Point sounds terrific, but hoping it's not next to a party place which carries on all night!

Oh no, Carrot Bay is very quiet. Coconut point is quite a ways down the road from Bomba's. We never heard anything but the ocean. Actually, Coconut Point is a few hundred yards from Sugar Mill Hotel. Very well run. The manager's is a very nice lady named Uschi. She is a great help and very organized! You pick up your key and things at Sebastians, then a short ride down the road to Coconut Point.

I have a few pictures you can view:

We didnt take that many pictures on Tortola, because we never had the digital camera at the right time. I've got some in a disposable haven't had them developed yet.
Tortola is beautiful. Gorgeous vistas around every corner.

You'd love Coconut Point. We stayed in the small studio, Orchid, that is right along the ocean. Here is their website.

It's close to so many good restaurants...Palm's Delight (best roti ever!), Sebastians (great food and wonderful spot right on the ocean to watch the sunset), Long Bay (great breakfasts and lunch right along the sea). Hope this helps.

Enjoy! Greenie

Hi Greenie!

I really, really appreciate your taking time to field my inquiries re Coconut Point. I've reserved Bouganville there (Orchid wasn't available), and am looking forward to staying there a great deal.! I also appreciate the tips re nearby restaurants.

Wasn't able to access the photos you posted. Got a message "You don't seem to be the owner...make sure you're logged on." It'd be fun to see the pix, but please don't feel you have to reveal your personal i.d. If you wish to, you can send it: [email protected].

Cheers! Susan

Sorry, Susan. Here is another link.

I hope this helps. I hope you're not disappointed with them. Most pictures are of Long Bay Beach. That was the most wonderful place. Just go straight ahead from Sebastians, past the Long Bay Resort to the end of the road. There's a little spot to park along the beach entrance. Walk all the way to the left on the beach, there's a nice spot to swim in the waves (and there's never any people there!). Also, if you take a left at the end of that road and follow the signs you'll end up at Smugglers Cove. That's a nice beach too (unpaved road though...very bumpy).

You will love Coconut Point and the area. Its so centrally located to everything....Cane Garden Bay, Long Bay, Brewers Bay, West End, etc.

Have fun, glad I could help. Anything else, let me know.

Peace, Greenie!
