Walking out from Caneel Bay

Are there any restaurants, bars or shops within walking distance of Caneel Bay? Does anybody know any restaurants, apart from China Shack, that deliver? I keep reading the food's pretty bad at a pretty high price. Thanks!

Nothing within walking distance, and I would not recommend walking on the road anyway--it is pretty busy with cabs racing along, and no real place to walk. The town of Cruz Bay is a 10 minute cab ride from the hotel.

We actually like the food at Caneel, although there is no question that it is expensive. We've tried just about every place in Cruz Bay, and with the exception of Asolare, none of them is appreciably better than what you get at Caneel.

On the contrary! The food at Caneel with the new ex. chef Czekelius...who also was there 20 years ago--is simply awesome. The new Terrace menu is delicious!

China Shack overrated trust me...not worth delivery.

Dont walk...you can...but the hills will kill you..nearest restaurants are Mongoose Junction....Ocean Grill fantastic...avoid others there.

Asolare is also overrated and very expensive. You pay for view.

La Tapa, Stone Terrace, Panini, Fishtrap and Joe's BBQ are all you need in Cruz Bay. Fishtrap has authentic Thai cusine...GM's wife from Thailand...you ahve to try it! Freshest seafood on island...

Margarita Phils mexican is faux....chef thinks he goes to Mexico for a few weeks, copies menues and he's an authentic mexican chef...same with Polis Mexican.

You can also always take a taxi into Cruz Bay and find a lot of places to dine at. We enjoy Zozo's at Gallows Point, Morgan Mangos, The Balcony to name a few. There is a taxi stop right near the ruins in Caneel. Very convenient! - Susan

marbleheadguy - Glad to hear Uncle Joe's BBQ is still around. I was wondering about that. It is the first thing we used to do when we got to STJ -- head over and grab some of that good bbq with rice&peas.

To address your question about places that deliver, Ronnie's Pizza will deliver. It is not the best pizza in the world by any means, but does the trick in a pinch. One suggestion, ask that they keep your pizza as level as possible when they deliver if you were to order. They hills can wreak havoc on a pie.

Ronnies is awesoem and he delivers more than pizza! You can get beer, wine, vegetarian, salads and more!

Zozos has new chef---chef scotty left for St Croix and food is well--up to you i gues...i dont like it...overpriced for food and beverages.
Margarita Phil is a fraud...its not authentioic...phil HOFFMAN thinks he can go to mexico for a few weeks, sample food and he's authentic...please!

Morgans is for sale...change chefs every year...not good.
Balcony is way overpriced...go to Panini or Stone terrace below.

Thank you--this was very helpful. I was also glad to hear from people who have eaten there that Caneel Bay has decent food. It gets slammed in a lot of reviews online. Thanks again.

I have to disagree with "marbleheadguy"- we've been to Margarita Phils several times and have always been pleased. Great food and drinks and a fun atmosphere, too. I saw they were rated "Best Mexican Food" of the Virgin Islands this past year and I know last time we went they had won "Best Chef" and "Best Frozen drinks", too, so I guess we're not the only ones who feel this way! We just tried the new restaurant on St. Thomas, too- beautiful!

The food at Caneel is very average when taking the prices into account.

Although I typically will eat at Caneel at least once while staying there, I personally like to venture out for many reasons.
Whether it's grabbing a burger at the Beach Bar or Lobster at the Lime Inn, your not limited to quality or options.

Yes Margarita Phils is more Tex-Mex then authentic-but it's actually not bad at all, and very relaxing.
