We took the kayak trip in Fajardo last March and loved it. I am not sure what damage you are referring to....it certainly looked great to us. Unfortunately, we were there on a night with lots of moonlight, so we did not get the full effect, but they put a tarp over the kayaks for a bit so you could experience what it would look like in complete darkness. It was one of the highlights of our trip, actually. Unfortunately, we do not have pictures.

No, we did not swim. The Fajardo biobay (Laguna Grande) does not allow swimming for ecological reasons (see below).I am not sure but I believe the biobay in Vieques does allow swimming.
"Effective in April 2007, the Puerto Rico Department of Natural Resources no longer allows swimming in the lagoon. Though some rogue operators do allow it, be advised that, if the authorities see you swimming, there can be heavy fines levied against both the swimmer and the tour operator."

bc is correct, there is no swimming allowed in the biobay in Fajardo. You can swim in the biobay of Vieques though. East Island Excursions takes a fast cat over to the island and the evening includes dinner. My in-laws just went and LOVED it! It's a bit more pricey than the kayaks in Fajardo, but worth every penny! Enjoy our island paradise. Oh, and don't forget to check the phase of the moon before you go, if it's full, don't bother. In fact, the reputable tour operators won't even take you out.
