Barbados bargains
Was wondering if anyone can tell me of a lovely, bargain hotel in Barbados? We love Barbados but don't necessarily want to pay for Glitter Bay etc. Don't want to stay in a place we're not happy in either. I think we are safer choosing Barbados in the summer/Sept due to rainy season? Any help would be appreciated!

I was in Barbados last June. I highly recommend Hotel Savannah which can be booked on Expedia.com.One of my best friends was having total work burnout and went on Expedia and booked the Savannah. She loved it. A month later,while on a bumper-to-bumper freeway, I was having work burnout and went on Expedia and a few clicks later...and 48-hrs later..was on my way to Barbados! It was one of the best investments I made. It's a 100-room boutique hotel. Quiet... and there was only one beach chair on the beach and no one was in it or on the beach. Very quiet and private. The room was very nice. I felt like I was living in a Tommy Bahama interior design ad. And it was a totally down-to-earth place. The view from the restaurant was amazing. It sits elevated and with a view of the ocean. On one of the TV channels in my room, there was a regularly run program to let you know what companies were available for various outings...boating...etc. There's a tour office down the street from the hotel. You can just walk there and arrange things as my friend did. I, however, basically stayed at the hotel and totally rested which is what I went to do except for when I went out with my private driver...they charge by the distance. I had an elderly man who was born and raised on that island so I got the whole history lesson. I don't need the beach. I'm from a state with non-stop coastline. I can have sun and beach any day.As for price, it was about $1200.air and hotel.. for 5 days...single occupancy...from the west coast of the U.S. Check it out! Bon Voyage.

Hi, the Southern Palms Beach Club is a great hotel right in the St Lawrence gap area. You can walk to a lot of restaurants. It has a beautiful beach. Very nice place. We were there last October. Got a great deal through AA Vacations. Look into the Best of Barbados packages. It's offered through the Barbados office of tourism. We had free breakfast each day.

The bad thing about the Savannah is that the beach is terrible -- small and very rocky. So if that's important to you, don't go there.
There are many reasonable priced places on the South Coast. Yellow Bird (has pool) - across the road from the beach, but unobstructed view and a fantastic beach -- Sandy Beach. Also inexpensive there is Chateau Blanc apartments (no pool tho).
For $155/night off-season, the Coral Sands Beach resort is 3 years old and gorgeous (with a pool).
Write me for my tips - they may help.

We stayed at Coral Sands at Lois' suggestion and it was truly wonderful. Large suite with kitchen facilities short walk to grocery stores and about 20 min walk to St Lawrence Gap. really nice beach and pool. Not touristy. Great deal for the dollar

Thank you Lois, Howard and Greenie!
Lois, Howard - Coral Sands Beach Resort sounds great. All we want is clean, with a great beach and good food. We're picky but not super super picky. We also do like to have a pool. I have always stayed on the West Coast, but it is so expensive and although I love it, we are thinking of trying something different. I've never stayed in the St. Lawrence Gap area - sounds like the hotel is 20 minutes away. Will we be happy in this area?
Many thanks!

Jen--E-mail Lois and get her tips on Barbados. They are invaluable. A good Barbados web site is www.insandoutsofbarbados.com If you stay at Coral Sands ask for an end unit on the second or third floor. Balconies are very private with partitions between each. Think we were in 309 which is an end unit.
There are some very good restaurants in the gap--Pices, Bellinis, chef Josephs and Davids to name a few. also some night life.

Jen, Coral Sands is great because it is close to the Big B. I love that section of beach--Sandy Beach. Very nice. But it's a walk to some of the other St Lawrence Gap restaurants. But if you rent a car, that is ideal!
Have fun. We love Barbados. Can't wait to get back myself.
Greenie =)
