Sutton Place or Wedgewood?

Planning an anniversary weekend to Vancouver. Have heard fabulous reviews on the Wedgewood. However, I notice the Sutton Place is the only 5-star in town. The rate for Sutton Place is also considerably less. Any feedback on the Sutton Place hotel? Is the 5-star rating accurate?

I really shouldn't say, as I'm not familiar with Sutton Place, but I do have to comment that if I were offered a choice of the Wedgewood and any other place I've ever stayed in...

it would be the Wedgewood, hands down. Wonderful, wonderful place.

Dear WNC,
After a 3-day cruise, we stayed 5 nights at the Sutton Place Hotel. Spouse and I liked it very much. Rooms were very well appointed a little on the smal side, but very nice. Try the Sunday brunch buffet, it is to die for.
The Sutton is located closer within walking distance to Robson St. shops. The Wedgewood is about 2 blocks further away. Cannot comment on staying at Wedgewood, but was inside at Bacchus Restaurant. This hotel is on smaller scale and more intimate for what I hear. Either hotel would be a good choice depending on what you want -- smaller boutique (Wedgewood) or larger scale, swim pool, etc., (Sutton Place.)
Enjoy.
Best, Francie

Another vote for the Wedgewood. Loveliest hotel I've ever stayed in.

Both hotels are within a block off of Robson Street. The Sutton Place is on 845 Burrard south of Robson, while the Wedgewood is on 845 Hornby, south of Robson. Identical distances off of Robson, just a block away from eachother. You could walk from one to the other within 5 minutes, so distance shouldn't be a factor in this decision. I do know from a local, the Sutton Place is much larger, whereas the Wedgewood is smaller. The Wedgewood looks more intimate, but then again, I haven't stayed in either.

I haven't stayed at either. We just returned from Vancouver and walked everywhere, including the areas immediate around both hotels. There is a construction project going on very near the Wedgewood (same block, same side of street). I don't know when you're planning to go and whether there would be construction noise on a weekend, but just thought I'd mention it.
