i haven't stayed at either, but did take a peek at the Frenchman last weekend while we were in town. It's high on my list as a possibility for our next trip. Pool is tiny, but the courtyard is pleasant. I really like the location. Jean

The Lafayette gets very good marks on tripadvisor.com. The Frenchman's aren't bad either but they have few comments ("not as nice as I thought it would be", etc) that would make me do more research before booking.

If you do choose the Lafayette, you may want to ask them if they have a restaurant. Their dining space (formerly Mike's on the Avenue, Mike Ditka's, Johnny RYan's, etc) changes ownership often and was closed last time I drove by.

Thanks all, I am looking at both Fodor's and Trip Advisor and have read the comments.
I don't really care if we choose a hotel over a B&B - if the hotel has no restaurants as I'm sure there are plenty of places to eat at. The Lafayette seems to have a special with a discount coupon for dinner - one of the place they mentioned was Cuvée -- is that good?
Any info on the Queen and Crescent Hotel?
