Romantic evening in Toronto

We've booked The Royal York for our anniversary - one night in May and I'm wondering if anyone has stayed there before? It's the "Junior Suite" and their "Royal Romance Package". Also, any comments on the rest of the evening...we are planning to eatdinner at "Auberge du Pommier and having cocktails at Panorama.
Many thanks!

Auberge du Pommier is lovely. They have a beautiful patio, which may not be open in May if it's cool, but the interior of the restaurant is lovely as well. We took my sister and her husband there for a post-wedding celebration a couple of years ago.

Congrats on your anniversary!

Just another opinion...but I think Auberge du Pommier, though exquisite to look at, is a very mediocre restaurant, especially given the cost. For $150-200 CDN (nice bottle of wine extra), I expect GREAT and this restaurant isn't. I also HATE sitting in a half full restaurant, which it often is. Sorry.

As for Panorama, it's also just OK. I assume it's a view you want so I'd recommend either Canoe or the Rooftop Bar at the Park Hyatt for cockatils or champagne. Panorama is a dated tourist trap.

Maybe things have changed at Auberge. It definitely was not 1/2 empty when we were there - at least 3 times, but that was a couple of years ago.

Thank you so much for the input. I definitely will consider what you said about Panaroma. I have heard only good things about Auberge - except for what was posted. Can you suggest another option for dinner - possibly around Bay and Front (where The Royal York is)

I really love Avalon which isn't far from your hotel. Also very nice is Canoe which also gives you the view. And for a third option North 44 is pretty special for an anniversary dinner but it's north about 15 minutes by taxi from your hotel (but much closer than Auberge). You might want to read the restaurant reviews on www.torontolife.com which I think are pretty accurate.

Nikki, One night in May in Toronto....
Wher to go for dinner?
I have enjoyed many fine dinners @ Auberge du Pommier but I must say if I were staying @ Royal York I wld. find a restaurant "closer to home " for the occasion. But where to go for that special dinner? I like intimate little corners, sipping wine, chatting & getting lost in the moment. Le Select Bistro on Queen St. W does it for me when I stay downtown. I also like The Pearl @ Queen's Quay (totally different atmosphere but still intimate....if you get the right table).

I'm glad that other people also feel that Auberge du Pommier is too far from where you're staying. You might consider The Pasta Bar at Scaramouche or Scaramouche itself, Bellini's in Yorkville, Sassafraz, the latter 2 are within walking distance of Panorama. Don't agree about Panorama. Fantastic view, especially if it's a nice (warm) night.

Evberyone has suggested very expensive restaurants. But if you don't want to spend a fortune, I'd recommend Bangkok Garden. The food is good and it's a really beauful restaurant.
