1st Anniversary - Special Restaurant Toronto
Can anyone recommend a great restaurant in downtown Toronto for a special evening? We love all kinds of food, are willing to spend from $150-$200 for the evening, and want somewhere romantic to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary.<BR>Thanks in advance.

We went to Scaramouche and had an amazing meal also to celebrate a special occasion. Nice view, wonderful food + wine list. Pretty classic French style cuisine. <BR><BR>3 courses + 1/2 bottle of Crozes Hermitage for about $250 including tip so not cheap but we felt it was worth it.<BR><BR>A quick google search turns up various reviews and info on location etc.<BR><BR>Congratulations on your first anniversary!

Haven't been to Susur but heard good things. Scaramouche is wonderful. Though not in downtown (it's on a hill in midtown) it has a terrific view of the city. Dinner with wine could be done easily for under $200.<BR><BR>North 44 is a personal favourite, also in midtown (no view, but on a livelier strip of Yonge Street that's worth a stroll if the weather is nice).

Avalon and Scaramouche are same price level. $200 Canadian is absolutely do-able if you're only having a glass of wine each. In fact, I'm sure it will cost less than that. However, Avalon has a spectacular wine list including many hard to find half bottles of both whites, reds and bubbly.<BR><BR>As for which to pick, I am not objective. I really dislike Scaramouche and find it stuffy and starched. The food is good but for me does not have that WOW factor. However, many people really like it because of the view, but that assumes you can get a table with a view.<BR><BR>I love Avalon as it's cozier, the service is good, the food is outstanding, they have an amazing cheese course (best in the city) and the deserts are also wonderful.<BR><BR>But for the most special occassion I think North 44 has it over others for sheer elegance, glamour and decadence.<BR><BR>Congratulations on your 1st and best wishes for many more.

Another possibility is Mildred Pearce. It's West of downtown in what looks like the middle of nowhere, but inside the restaurant is gorgeous - very theatrical, very romantic. The food is excellent (not as good as Susur, but what is?), the service is very professional - with no attitude, and the price range is lower than Susur/Scaramouche/Avalon.

Hi, I got a lot of great information regarding the are close to our hotel, now after reading about all these charming places to eat, which are the best , redarding food, Italian and portuguese rest for you? We shall be four nights in Torongo, no anniversary, but we would like to have a good meal a day in a good place, ...?

Finest Portugese is without a doubt Chiado. Read the review on www.torontolife.com. As for Italian, many good ones depending on your preferences...La Fenice (fish), Sotto Sotto, Trattoria Giancarlo (happening scene in trendy area), Prego de la Piazza (high end)...many, many others...
