Well, since I started this string, I might as well try to end it...

First of all, for the record, my original post was in reference to the Fodor's BOOK recommendation of the Russell. I have never used this site before, nor even heard of Alan, Liz, or anyone else, nor received recommendations from them that I could possibly then "denigrate". I only replied to the first person who responded, who happened to be Alan, and I thought his comment about having an elevator in his house was a bit silly, is all. I apologize if my tone was deemed offensive, that certainly wasn't my intention. But I must say that in reading the following messages, I am utterly shocked. I was under the mistaken impression that this was a site where one could relate a travel experience, good or bad, so that other travellers could be informed, without having one's opinions lambasted and being personally attacked. Oh well.

Yes, Kilkenny is an Irish brew that is on draught almost everywhere in Australia. It is a nice dark amber that is soooo smooth. The genuine Irish pubs in the U.S. know about the brew but the U.S. distributors don't order it. However for those that might come to Alaska there is no lack of brew houses up here, if a beer is your preference. Like the Aussies, we are a pretty friendly folk.

Deb;
guess you didn't know this is a private club with its own rules that you weren't privy to. All of us have no life but this forum so everyone assumed you were the same! you newbies should only ask and never offer advice, as you could certainly have no opinions of interest to us 'experts'!

I think that Deb protests too much in saying that she was not attacking Alan because she did say this to Alan.
"If you wish to continue to recommend this place, that is fine, but please let people know of these potential issues before they arrive and are disappointed"
If she had never heard of Alan then why would she suggest to him that he not recommend The Russel again unless he listed all the points that it does not have?

And just to clear up any final misunderstandings, Deb contacted me privately this week to propose marriage, I accepted, we are buying a house with an elevator in it, and we plan to call ALL our children "John", even the girls. Oh, yes, and we plan to honeymoon at the Russell, and bring a pot of paint with us.

They really exist!
They all thought it was hilarious and made lots of jokes about their names-used to describe each others clothes as "jaunty", left "Dear John" notes to each other, and talked about using the "Joe" when going to the toilet.
The parents died a few years back, but last I heard my cousins planned to continue the tradition with their children!
I am proud to be an Ugly American!

A VERY BIG THANK YOU to Alan, Mina, Liz, lcuy and numerous others who have taken their unpaid time to provide their OPINIONS to this forum. My family spent August in Oz and our trip was much more enjoyable due to the advise they provided.

Now, for the important part. Ay Yay Yay - it's MY shout - lets go to Queensland and get a jug (or two or three) of XXXX! Aussies, Americans, Brits - you're all invited!
