Where to buy a nice silk pantsuit

I would like to buy a nice silk pantsuit while in Bangkok. Can you recommend a store and how much should I pay for. Should the jacket and pants both be lined. I 'm a size 10 american. Should I have one made-I will have enough time. Thanks. alana

No question - have one made for yourself. Then you'll get exactly what you want.

I totally agree. Have one made if you have the time. If you have a picture of what you want, that helps.

I have nearly all of my clothes made in Bangkok. You can't compare your American size 10 to the equivalent of a Thai size 10 as the arms will more than likely be too short along with the length of the pants.
For years, I have had my clothes made at Cotton House in the tiny Oriental Place shopping arcade, on the street in front of the Oriental hotel....you can't miss it.
You will need time for fittings. The more fittings the better. They have fabric there that you can select from or you can take your own fabric which is what I do since here in L.A. we have a very good fabric selection in the garment district. But since you want silk, there's a big selection around Bangkok. Happy Travels!

As for lining, Cotton House will probably automatically line it. They line my cotton skirts. You might be able to google them and ask the price. But, most likely under $100 for the labor. Happy Travels!

They will do whatever you ask. Almost everything I've had custom-made has been lined. Remember, you'll be telling them every detail about what you want. A photo or drawing or even a garment to copy will help the process.

cotton house in back of the oriental hotel in OP Place is a good bet as is JS Thai silk on the ground floor of the River City shopping ctr, next door to the sheraton orchid on the river....

like all custom made items you need to be very up front about what you want....bring a piece you love or bring pictures....be specific about details: colars, pleats, stictching, but most of all about the fit...insist on as many fittings as you feel are necessary...my wife does 3 minimum...take pictures with you...go with a good idea of style...

we like both of these places....they are not the cheapest, but their quality is excellent..

I have purchased many silk pantsuits over the years from Talbots, so I would actually suggest that you look there (try the catalog or on-line, I buy from them via the catalog almost exclusively). While Bangkok is pretty good for prices for tailoring, all in all I don’t think having one made will save you any significant amount of money or may not save you any money at all (not sure if that is an issue for you.) Also, having a store-bought suit tailored a bit to flatter your figure better is another good use of cheaper Bangkok tailors (taking in the jacket to make a waist, etc). I have also had my favouirte silk suits copied over the years here in Hong Kong as well, and this has worked fairly well, the material is often a better weight silk. (Again, not any cheaper, but while you can never find the same suit again in a store at least you can have it copied.) If you have a favourite pantsuit or two, by all means bring it and have it copied, IMO that is a great way to get what you want. It is often overwhelming to have to choose, style/cut, color, fabric, etc. So in addition to giving new life to something you already love, using a favourite as a pattern saves some time and decision-making on your part as well.
