I just bought a ticket to Hong Kong with my frequent flyer miles and I'm going there for 3 days in september. The main goal will probably be to climb the mast of Macau tower but don't tell my wife that I have been to Hong Kong once before (see http://gardkarlsen.com/china_xian_hong_kong.htm ) but that was not such a great trip as I got a cold after Beijing and SARS was coming to town as we were there. Anyway, if you have any general advice of what to see and do, cool bars with a view, restaurants etc...feel free to share the information

Hi Gard. Hong Kong is my favourite city in the world so for me 3 days is too short. I suggest you take your wife for a ferry trip on the harbour, up to the Peak ( maybe just before sunset so you can see the view in the daylight but then with the night lights). As for bars, views etc I can recommend the foyer lounge bar in the Intercontinental ( day is nice but night is fabulous ). For a moderately priced restaurant on Kowloon side I can recommend Spring Deer restaurant in Mody Road . Good food and very popular so you would have to reserve a table in advance. Have a look around the shops both in Kowloon and Hong Kong side, Causeway Bay etc. The bird market and flower market, Stanley market are all interesting places for a newcomer to have a look at. The locals will give you advice. Have a great time!

Gard, one of our Fodors regulars here is Cicerone, an ex-pat who lives in Hong Kong. She has written a number of long posts about things to do and see, restaurants, etc. All are excellent. Do a search for her posts - they are better than any guidebook!

Thanks for the feedback so far. Yes, 3 days is way too short of course but this is just a short fun trip to try out how it is flying first class and of course to re-visit Hong Kong and also check out Macau ;-)

Hong Kong is an international city, I think you can have a great fun there, and I don't know what you are interesting in, so just show the places I like, such as Ocean Park, Madame Tussauds, Avenue of Stars

And also you can go to the near cities to have a look, Shenzhen, Macau, Dongguan, Guangzhou, and if you want to the schedule and price about the bus, boat and train, you can just search "prdguide" in google.

My husband & I have quite enjoyed your website as we are able to relate so much to your travels!
I'm sure there are many HK experts (Cicerone helped us quite a bit with our trip) but if time permits, do have tea at the Intercontinental. It was such a relaxing experience. We tried to have tea at The Peninsula but the long line/wait encouraged us to try the Intercontinental next door, as a friend first suggested. The atmosphere is much more relaxing and the view of course, can't be beat!

Thanks for the feedback. I have started to plot in some of point of interests in this Google map: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...,0.090895&z=14 . I like to do that before I travel as it gives me an idea of the layout of the city. I'm also trying to use websites like couchsurfing to hook up with locals as that makes it sooo much easier for getting a grasp on the local food
