Can anyone recommend a cool food tour in BKK? I think I would like to do something with a guide, but if you know of something self-guided that could work as well. Looking to explore some of the more unique and exciting food offerings in BKK.

My wife and I took a self-guided food tour in Bangkok that we got from a New York Times article. It's around the giant swing. We were pleasantly stuffed by the end. We got it from this forum. You might try using the search box at the top right. I think the last post was in 2007 about this tour.

i have never heard of any organized tour....i have a listing of bkk restaurants that i have prepared but they tend to be upscale and not cutting edge....ask at: [email protected]

a good walking tour of street food is around any working area/living area of bkk... some i have noticed are:

in front of robinsons and mcdonalds next to the taskim skytrain station on new road
along soi 4 sukhumvit
along many of the sois leading from sukhumvit
silom road around convent road area
sun lum nite market
khoa san rd
china town
soi cowboy
any market

I am sure that Tong would tailor a "foodie" tour for you.

She would be a fun person to spend the day eating and drinking with.

Don't know your BKK arrival, but at present, that certain cherished Singaporean airline has some 'new' Thai delights, via 'Book the Cook' for J flying pax, SIN-BKK. (And this lowly SQ PPS remains loyal to SIA's signature, lobster 'therm'.)

Should you be 'by the river' for work in Bangkok and your business entails more than one property, try a slightly different 'food tour' with the 'O/Pen/SL' selections. (As of ~ fortnight back, 'hands down' to the Peninsula's all-time cherished 'soup specialist' ... (and yes, if you praise his work, those lovely Lobby waitresses will 'bring him up' to your table for a personal acknowlegement.) ... (Thanks forever, Peninsula staff.)

My mouth is watering! Thanks so much for the great responses. I will be arriving in BKK on Sept 5th for 4 nights before heading to Ko Tao and then Laos. Staying at the new Le Meridien in BKK and will do my best to submit a trip report soon after.

while at the meridien, a great place for lunch is in the cafe at the main jim thompson store.... its just up the road on the same street, suriwongse, at the corner of rama IV....

What about the top 5 (or more) dining spots in BKK - the places not to miss? Sounds like Chote Chitr is up there. I remember enjoying an evening at Spring and Summer, which also has a chocolate bar. Great atmosphere with a large lawn on which you can lounge on bean bags. (this was a few years back)

I enjoy the Nancy Chandler Maps website and offerings, as they are reasonably up to date. You could structure your own tour based on geography, easily!
