Hi: I'm going to Tunisia in three weeks on a tour and there isn't much posted about this small North African country.

Any general tips or comments would be appreciated.

I visited in December 2005, but I have no idea how to answer such a general question, other than to refer you to my trip report and photos (which you could find by searching for Tunisia).

I'm not sure what a "general tip" is, or what you'd like by way of comments.

If you were more specific, maybe you'd get some responses.

We visited Tunisia for our honeymoon in 2000, so this is from some time ago, but we loved it. We stayed in Hammamet, and took a few excursions. We found the people very pleasant. Although all the vendors can bargain in English, I also speak French, so I found the vendors in the market happy to chat with me, and they asked lots of questions about Canada and Quebec where I am from. Shopping was terrific with dirt cheap prices.

We took a 2-day tour that went down to the Sahara where we road camels at sunset and then overnighted at a hotel in an oasis and back, stopping at some beautiful and interesting places along the way - Sfax, El Jem colisseum, Sidi Bou Said, (and a couple of other places whose names I can't remember but were memorable nonetheless). The other tour that we did was a day trip to Tunis, visiting a market, Carthage, and the Bardo museum. If you do nothing else in Tunisia, don't miss the Bardo. It was awesome and I'm not a museum kind of gal.

We often left the hotel and wandered around to find a place for lunch, and never felt unsafe.

All in all, a wonderful trip, with lots of value for the dollar. Highly recommended!

My thanks to thit_cho. I finally found your travel report and pictures which, by the way, are beautiful, and your trip report is very interesting. Many of the places you visited are included in our tour.

Thanks to all who responded, and, yes, Sunshine, there are more than 100 threads regarding Tunisia, dating back ten years. I guess I didn't read every one as felt many that old may longer be pertinent.

Have a great trip. I went there a couple years ago. It was nice and there's lots of ruins from ancient times when this part of the world was ruled by the Romans or Carthage. Plus, it's clean and the air is fresh.

Please let me know if you now have any specific questions -- Tunisia is an amazing destination, and IŽd be happy to answer any questions. Hopefully, this info will encourage more people to visit.
