Crater Lake Tented Camp??
Does anyone have any comments on Crater Lake Tented Camp near Lake Naivasha?
Can anyone comment on the quality of the food or the quality of the tents?
Does anyone know if anyone has ever done a trip report on the camp?

Crater Lake lodge was brilliant, when it was run by the previous owner. It was owner operated, but then the management and ownership has been taken over by a local who runs 3 star hotels in Naivasha and Nakuru. I am not sure if standards have dropped, but when we went 2 years ago, the accommodation was beautiful, food excellent.

Come-on BigLion !!
who cares about the food, when u r in paradise??
r u going there with your SO ?
if so (with SO) u'll love it, or i'll give u your money back...
It's not the fanciest lodge (or tents) i wouldn't expect the food to be 6 paw;
IMO even without eating at all it's worth being there...
i've been there many years before a lodge was erected there & have come back to that gorgeous place a number of times while the lodge was there.
Simply take it !
you'll have great time

Aby,
I have no idea what an SO is !
When was the last time you were there?
How would you rank (out of 10) the following:
Tents: /10
Location: /10
Management: /10
Activities: /10
Food: /10
I'm very curious and really appreciate your feedback!

Dear Simbakubwa
SO = Significant Other
(i noticed married folks use DW DH ...)
Again, i can only recommend the location.
I'm not sure i have the same expectations etc' from a lodge since for me, what is out of the tent is the 99%... My philosophy, views and political approach differ from many i read on this forum (took me time to understand their point of view, but it was an interesting anthropological 'voyage')
I must tell you about me that in some of the high class places i personally feel like a #@&$en colonialist...
last time i've been there is 2002
never stayed there
Location: 10
{It is at least as magical as staying on the shores of Lake Paradise in Marsabit NR - though there one can only put his own tent }
Imagine yourself inside a small volcano's caldera, on the shores of a small lake (virtually meters from the water.) around the water there is (of course) a forest of Yellow Fever Acacias Acacia xanthophloea where 'gangs' of Colobus monkeys thrive.
For a sun-downer you have a short climb to the caldera's rim. sitting up there overlooking the volcano's "mouth" u r wordless...
don't forget to pick up some Obsidian chips; (it makes me meditate on the evolution of human culture with the help of geology - there's no flint stones in this volcanic world, so Obsidian is what enabled that human tool making within the Rift Valley...)
i have brought with me lots of people over there for a short visit & saw their eyes. It is exciting.
how many nights do you want to spend there?
If u wish to spend a week with on-ground activity this is not the place.
I'd say it is suitable for a romantic "escape" for 1-2 nights, & maybe more but depends ...
mind you: it is a long and dusty road,if u want to get to the other side's lodges' jetties for a boat ride i don't know if they have their own boat somewhere closeby (for 'cruising' the main lake)
Check with them maybe they have other activities within the farm
hope this helps

PS i was serious, i would settle for rice & tea only just to stay there

Patty, I never did end up staying at Crater Lake, but our friends stayed there and they said they thought it was great!
Lots of animals in the reserve that you can walk through...
If you do stay there, it would be great to get your opinion on how it compares...
