Any opinions/experiences with respect to Lake O'Hara Lodge in Yoho would be appreciated. I am debating between Shadow Lake Lodge in Banff and Lake O'Hara Lodge in Yoho. Thanks!

Are you considering Lake O'Hara Lodge for this summer? It is sold out for July and August.

Getting a cabin at Lake O'Hara is a birthright. Your grandfather or rich uncle leaves it to you in his will. Otherwise, you wait for somebody to have a disaster and pray you get the cancelled reservation.
(I say disaster because no one cancels at O'Hara casually!)

I tried for 5 years without success to go there. Finally somebody cancelled at the last minute, and out of nowhere I got the unexpected call one day in June. The voice spoke the magic words: "We have a cancellation for 2 nights at Lake O'Hara." I had 7 days to make my airline reservations and other plans to go out there, but it was for a room in the lodge, and not a cabin on the lake.
But that did not matter!

Would love a recent review of this place, since the prices are quite steep.
Tried another year, but had no luck. Thinking about next year.
Already, we're too late, but...
just in case there are cancellations...
could really use feedback on this lodge. Thanks!

My husband and I have stayed at Lake O'Hara Lodge several times. The rooms in the lodge have no private bathroom. The bathrooms are at the end of the hall and are large and comfortable. The rooms are small and all of the ones we have stayed in are twins. Sounds bad? NO WAY! We love Lake O'Hara Lodge. The place is our absolute favorite place. True it isn't luxury, but it is comfortable, the food is divine...seriously wonderful, perfect food. We hike all day, come back to a hot shower and comfotable main lodge gathering spots. There is often entertainment, one night was a lecture by a grizzly specialist, the next a string quartet played. We wish we had the $$$ to afford one of the lake side cabins, but we don't, so we book whenever we get a chance in the main lodge. It is wonderful and worth every cent!

I think it is the kind of place where if you have to ask, I doubt if you want to go! The attraction is the scenery, not the lodge.

If you want a plush lodge, go to Emerald Lake or one of the other hotels like the Post Hotel or Deer Lodge.

We would love to stay at Lake O'Hara Lodge--it is one of my dream destinations. I think when I checked, it was $600/nt, sold out, and definitely out of our price range. We stayed at Emerald Lake Lodge though and fell in love with the place. I do have to write a review on the hotel section of this board because the reviews there do not reflect how wonderful this place was. I was having a difficult time finding lodging in Lake Louise over the U.S. Labor Day weekend. Thank goodness because Emerald Lake had availability and was only $200/nt.CAD. I was afraid we would be placed in a room that had not been updated since the 50s but our room was beautiful. The room was small, with a queen bed, nice linens and duvet, coffeemaker and wonderful woodburning fireplace fronted by 2 upholstered adirondack styled chairs. It was in a quad unit--we were in an upper unit--several are placed around the property. It had a balcony looking out at the lake, slightly blocked by the pines. The location is absolutely spectacular; we enjoyed the restaurants for breakfast and dinner.
We also stayed at Baker Creek and Beckers on this trip but to us nothing compared with Emerald Lake Lodge.
