American-Italian Renaissance Cultural Center
American-Italian Renaissance Cultural Center Review
Italian–New Orleans customs are explained and artifacts exhibited in this small, thoughtful museum, which also has wine tastings and other events. The center will be undergoing a $2.5 million renovation starting in 2013, so check the website and call for information on coming exhibits.
The Modern Piazza d'Italia by architect Charles Moore is a secret oasis behind the American-Italian Renaissance Cultural Center, tucked in the center of the block bounded by Tchoupitoulas, St. Peter, Lafayette, and Poydras streets. Its postmodern style is reminiscent of a Roman ruin. The park is a gathering place for the large Italian community on St. Joseph's Day and Columbus Day.
