Taverne de la Madeleine

Taverne de la Madeleine Review

This sunny, elevated stone terrace looks across at the 15th-century Temple de la Madeleine. The lunch-only kitchen in this big, plain, friendly canteen serves wholesome plats du jour, but must-tries include the filets de perches (a fish dish that is ubiquitous in the French-speaking part of Switzerland), chocolate mousse, and lemon pie. Homemade fruit tarts sell for 3.50 SF per slice between 3 pm and 6 pm. The city's temperance league owns and operates the Taverne, so it serves no wine or beer.
