Wyoming & Colorado in Sept
My husband and I are planning a 10 day trip to Wyoming and Colorado in September. We are out-of-shape 60 year olds, so are not into difficult hikes etc but we like to walk, love to see wildlife, enjoy old mining towns, small quirky museums, and artists colonies. We also like nice hotels.
Any suggestions for towns to see, events (rodeos etc) that are worthwhile, great resorts or hotels?
Thanks in advance.

I am also over 60 (64) but I excersize 3 times a week.
Last June I went on a hiking trip to Bryce, Zion, GC and Sedona.
While I do not do "difficult" things, I still spent a month before the trip training.
I ran 3 times a week, lifted weights and went on the Step-Master starting at 3 minutes and worked my way up to 16 minutes.
Although it was pretty hot, I was able to go non-stop all day.
I'll do the same thing again for Eastern Utah this May.
You have loads of time.

I'd send away to the Colorado tourism board; they have beautiful glossy mags that divide the state into different area, with schedules of what festivals, etc. , are going on (the photos will make it difficult to chose; it's a VERY big state!). Then you can hit town and other area websites for more info. A safe bet in September will be ski area lodging: reduced prices for great places, in beautiful settings.
Wyoming added on? HUGE state; maybe stick to Yellowstone?

My favorite drive in September is in the Aspen area, out to Maroon Bells and then over Independence Pass. The Aspen should be turning in late September and the area is just aquiver with molten gold. Maroon Bells is a great place for easy walks. There is a ghost town you can visit as you go over Independence Pass.
Continue on past Twin Lakes and then return to I-70 through Leadville. It's a really beautiful drive!

I am partial to SW Colorado myself. It is beautiful here in September and there aren't usually any crowds, even though it is a popular time to be here.

I suggest you keep the trip to Colorado, and stay several nights in Aspen. You can fly to Denver and make a nice driving loop to and from Aspen, seeing Leadville (old mining town with quirky museums), Vail, Glenwood Springs, etc.
Aspen is a beautiful 'old town', with lots to do, in a gorgeous setting. It will be lovely in September. I can recommend the Hotel Jerome, as a classy and very good hotel.

Are you flying there or driving from home? If flying, where are you flying into? If driving, where's home? I ask because either answer will affect the itinerary suggestions.
I think Colorado has more of what you're looking for, but Yellowstone would be a nice add-on. You're certainly not going to see everything, but it seems a shame to skip Yellowstone just for a few extra days in Colorado.
