Which condo complex in Waikoloa?

Anyone stayed at Bay Club, Shores at Waikoloa, Vista Waikoloa, or Fairway Villas? Is one of these better located? Thanks.

I am interested in a reply to this message as well. I have reservations at the Fairway Villas the last week of June. I picked this over Bay Club, Shores or Vista because of the privileges to use the beach and facilities at the Outrigger Waikoloa. If anyone has stayed at the Fairway Villas, I would like to hear their response. Also, how far is it from the condos to the shops and to the Outrigger Waikoloa and beach? Is it walkable?

bjb,
Did you book thru Outrigger reservations? My understanding was that priviledges are only extended to guests booking the Fairway Villas thru Outrigger and not other sources. For the dates we looked into, the price was much higher thru Outrigger. We ended up booking at the Vista since the units there are bigger. Will be there in mid-April.

We booked through Outrigger and got an outstanding rate - $220 for a 2 bdrm 2 bath loft. My only concern is that they are still doing construction on additional units and I hope there isn't too much noise.

We stayed at the Bay Club two years ago and thought it was great. We had a beautiful 2 bedroom with a golf course view (not near enough to the ocean to see much of that but fabouls sunsets). All beaches are public in Hawaii so you have "beach privledges" no matter where you stay, There is a public parking lot next to the Outrigger so anyone can use that beach. Of course that does not entitle you to use their beach chairs so if you are staying at a condo with resort privledges you might prefer that.

The Bay Club has it's own lovely pool areas and a wonderful lava rock hot tub (that happened to be just outside our patio) which we prefered over using any of the larger more crowded pools at the Outrigger.

Location of the Bay Club is great, you can walk (a longish walk) over to the Outrigger and also walk the trails around the resort and golf course. It's an easy drive to other coast resorts, be sure and visit the Mauni Lani area and the Mauna Kea/Hapuna resorts). Also an easy drive into Kona/Kailua.

We did see that they were breaking ground on building more units so I don't know what the status of that might be now. We were no where near any noise or construction.

Aloha, have a great trip!

Patty, I agree with "abbekit" regarding the beaches. We had zero interest in the beach by the Outrigger & preffered to drive a few miles up the road to Hapuna Beach to swim & sun because it is so beautiful w/ rest rooms & shower facilities. We too stayed at the Bay Club 09/02 and had a great unit on the golf course. If your Fairway Villa is nice, you'll love having Waikoloa as a base to explore from. Be sure to walk the trails by the Hilton & check out the gorgeous Asian artwork there. There is alot to enjoy outside the Waikoloa resort area.
enjoy!

bjb,
When I checked rates at the Fairway Villas thru Outrigger it was about $300+ for the 2 bedroom. I see they've come down comsiderably since then. I was also concerned about construction, but then again I understand there will be construction near the Vista as well. It seems like there are several new condo complexes being built in Waikoloa.

rainbro,
We're staying at the Vista Waikoloa not the Fairway Villas. Any comments on the Vista? Thanks for the tip about Hapuna beach.

Patty, I passed the Vista property everyday while at the Bay Club & they look nice from the road. Also you will be closer walking distance to the little shopping center & Starbucks or
the provision store. The new construction was closer to us, but we faced Mauna Kea & the golf course so it wasn't a distraction. "A" Bay next to Outrigger might be nice for a morning snorkel, but you'll love Hapuna. Also the showers I mentioned are very basic rinse off type, but it allowed us to hang out as long as we wanted as long as we toted some snacks & drinks. You definetly picked the best area for the $$ in my opinion.

Rainbro is right about Hapuna. We stayed at the Outrigger property and we found ourselves at Hapuna Beach many times. I saw the most incredible sunsets there, you feel like you are the only person on earth, the level of peace I felt there was amazing. The entire Waikoloa compound is very pretty so you really cannot go wrong where ever you stay within it. I loved the tree lined road that enters Waikoloa, and I think maybe there is one of the amazing Roy's restaurant at the King's Shops now. (it wasn't there when I was there but I saw it in an ad recently)Enjoy your stay.

Patty, I would be interested in your opinion of the Vista Waikoloa. I will be staying there this summer in a ground floor unit. Can you please post a reply after your trip?

Trying again...

We were very happy with our condo at the Vista Waikoloa, unit #F206. It is classified as a partial ocean view on the 2nd floor with a view of A Bay from the lanai. Well maintained and decorated, and very clean. Larger than we had anticipated (about 1600 sq ft including the lanai) Easy walking distance to the Hilton or Marriott/Outrigger and the King's shops. Be sure to walk the King's trail behind the shopping center to see the petroglyphs, but go early as it gets really hot with no shade. There was some construction directly across the street but we weren't bothered by it. We didn't use any of the facilities like the pool as we were always at the beach or doing something else so can't comment on that.

We spent time at both Hapuna and A Bay. Actually found Hapuna to be a little crowded (maybe we went at the wrong time) and A Bay pretty quiet. Hapuna did have finer sand and clearer water though and the waves were good for boogie boarding. A Bay was very calm especially in the morning.

One thing that we did and really enjoyed was renting a small boat out of Honokohau (sp?) harbor just south of Kona airport and spending the day out on the ocean on our own and stopping whenever we wanted to snorkel.

Roy's is located at the King's shops and was the best among the restaurants that we tried. Our second/third favorites were Daniel Thiebaut (in Waimea) and Oodles of Noodles in Kona (this one's more of a casual eatery located in the strip mall but all of the noodle dishes were tried were good and inventive).

Hope this helps (hope this posts too!).

Just wanted to add that they were very flexible about checkout as no one was checking into the same unit that day, so they said we could leave as late as we wanted.
