I am interested in getting same day tickets
at TKTS for Broadway show. Where is it
located? HOw early do I need to be there in

There are 2 locations the most popular is right in the heart of Times Square and figure you need to be there around 1 pm to get in line, and you will be there an hour or more depending on how many other people want tickets and the time of year.

A BETTER suggestion is the downtown TKTS which is known probably better by NYCers and is alot easier to use. It is located at the back of the Prudential Building at the corner of John and Water ST and the South St. Seaport.

It opens I think at 10am and there is rarely a line, and I think you can get better choices for shows, since it is open well before the Times Square location.

After you get your tickets walk up to Chinatown and get a great Dim Sum lunch.

I think it opens at 9:00...but I could be wrong. They have a great website. You really should check that out. I have waited in line for as short as 15 minutes and in the summer as long as an hour.

Another good way to get discount theater tickets without the hassle of standing on line, is PlayBill.com. Just go to the Members section and sign up - its free. You will then find a list of NY shows offering discounts (usually 40%). While the discount isn't as large as that of TKTS, one can choose a show, actual seats, and do it all in advance of your trip on-line. You can also print the discount page for a particular show and go to the theater box office with the coupon for the same discount - thereby saving the Telecharge/TicketMaster add-on fees. Again, this saves a lot of time if not quite so much money.

honestly i saw the tkts line in times SQ this weekend and it was so long, i think that my limited time in NYC as a tourist is worth the money for a full price ticket.

tdf.org is the website that has all the info about locations and times for both TKTS booths. They also list what shows have been available recently.

broadwaybox.com is a website that has many discount codes from several different websites including playbill. No need to register. If you see a code that's good for the date you need, phone for tickets.

The downtown booth is across from the South Street Seaport (although not to easy to notice) from the tdf.org website, it says

Easily reachable by subway, you can take the J,M,Z, 2,3,4,5 to Fulton Street or the A,C to Broadway-Nassau. The M15 bus travels down Second Avenue to the Seaport. From the upper west side, the A or C would be your best bet.

drama which is infinitely shorter
as visitors are generally interested
in musicals.
So your line wait MAY not be as

check this site for TKTS info: www.curtainup.com/tkts.html. ALso, keep in mind not all tickets are half price, the discount is anywhere from 25-50%, with an additional fee of I think $3/ticket. SImilar discounts can be found in advance or at the box office using coupon codes posted on sites like Broadwaybox.com, playbill.com, hitshowclub.com, and theatermania.com. The very popular shows (Wicked, Spamelot, etc) are never discounted. The Seaport booth sells matinee tickets one day in advance.

The most practical and time-effective way to get discounted tickets is to go to the Playbill website, run off copies of the offers and just go to the box offices of the shows. Or, stop at one of the NYC Convention & Visitors Bureau facilities (there's one in Times Square and another on 7th Avenue near 51st Street) and pick up discount coupons and take them to the box offices.
These offers aren't quite as much of a savings as TKTS, but you save a lot of time!

I'm not a big fan of tkts only b/c the shows that are on sale are usually the really old ones, or the 'not-so-good' ones. if u know which musical u want to see, u can call their box office and ask if they have special discount tickets or rush tickets. these are usually the seats in the first 2 rows, some ppl dont like to sit so close to the stage b/c u'll get a neck cramp after the show is done. in some cases, they sell standing tickets, which i'm not a big fan of.
i've seen aida for $25 on the second row. i know they have rush tickets for chicago as well. i just called up their box office, the lady didnt know a whole lot. but i have a friend that's seen chicago, something like they have to go in at 8am to get a ticket stub to come back at 10 am (when the box office opens) to purchase their ticket. they only sell a limited number each day. when i called, the lady didnt tell me about going at 8am to get a ticket stub, but i know when my friend went, she had to do that. and when ppl say they give out ticket stubs at 8am, it usually means wait in line at 6am. no joke. people tend to go crazy waiting in line for things.
these rush tickets are 2 per person. call chicago at 212-239-6200 and ask them alot of questions, u dont want to go their and miss out on purchasing tickets. but i guess u can always go to tkts which is a few blocks from the theater.
