Door County, WI. It's like a little New England coastal town in the midwest! On Lake Michigan. Lots of B&B's and shops.

Sundara Spa in the Wisconsin Dells is great. Truly world class and you can usually get great deals, especially for mid-week stays.

American Club in Kohler is certainly another possibility but it won't be cheap.

I was going to suggest Galena as well. There are some gorgeous B&B's in the area that would be very romantic.

Ultra-romantic, according to things I've read, tucked-away, but NOT cheap:
Canoe Bay in north central Wisconsin.

A 6 hour drive from Chicago, in northwestern Wisconsin, is a Relais & Chateaux, Canoe Bay.

Spendy but VERY unique & charming. Very romantic

Happy journey, Tiff

GALENA for sure! I did two nights and three days in January this year plus a full day spa booking for myself for around $500.00

Book online through www.eagleridge.com and get special "e-deals". Last year I got a $150 suite for 89/night by using the net. I recomment their newer facilities that are separate from the main inn. Heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, fitness room and fantastic room service. Room featured fireplace and jacuzzi tub.

While there, be sure to visit the Stonedrift Spa. A full days service is only $250.75 and worth twice as much for the quality you get.

I'm sort of posting a reply to this message so I don't lose it because I too (in the Midwest) need a quick break... but to those of you that have posted... these places the week after Christmas? Really?

You can get rates on Southwest Airlines if you travel on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays. I can go from Indianapolis to Phoenix Tuesday to Tuesday or Tuesday to Wednesday or Wednseday to Tuesday for $146 (with all taxes included) roundtrip. If I mix a Saturday travel day into the mix it bumps up to $182. I think its worth the extra bucks to get the hell out of the midwest for a couple of days!

I don't know why I typed "Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday" when I meant "Tuesday, Wednesday Saturday."
