Tell me about Lake Geneva, Wiscosin
Looking at Lake Geneva for summmer vacation. I know nothing about it. I have a booklet from the visitor center but can't figure out the place. Is is mostly resort places, old cottages, shopping, nature, "touristy stuff". Is one week too long for two 50 year olds to stay there? Thanks.

Don't know much about Lake Geneva except there is a mail boat that delivers mail on the lake and think it takes passengers.
Check out Door County in Wisconsin. That is full of "touristy stuff". They have a wonderful Door County Fish Boil.
There are many villages where a lot of artists call home. Many, many shops, restaurants and lodging. Is a lovely place along Lake Michigan.

If you're there for a week, intend to do a lot of relaxing. The town itself is small and the shopping (local arts and crafts stores) can be done easily in a day. There are also a number of "junk" tourist shops downtown (selling the usual ugly t-shirts and knick-knacks), in addition to some bars and restaurants.
Living in Chicago, I mostly view it as a nice weekend getaway location.

I second bratsandbeer's recommendation for Door County. It is a wonderful place with lots to do or lots of wonderful places to relax.
Lake Geneva could work as a central location if you do day trips in the area. I can't imagine what you'd do there for a week otherwise. You could take day trips to Madison, Milwaukee, or to Dodgeville/Spring Green area for Taliesen & House on the Rock, etc.
