Opinions on Excalibur Hotel?
Planning on staying in Las Vegas for one night at the end of our vacation. We have 3 children ages 14,12 and 9 and thought the Excalibur might be a fun theme hotel. Want to keep the price in the moderate range. Probably won't be in the hotel too long. Any opinions on the Excalibur?

I've heard the rooms aren't fantastic, but for one night, moderate price and especially with kids I think it would be fine. It seems like it might be difficult for the kids to have fun at some of the other hotels (although my 2nd vote with kids would be NYNY from the looks anyway).

NYNY would be more appealing for your kids (and for you), and isn't usually a lot more expensive than Excalibur. Excalibur has to be the worst of the Strip hotels built in the last 10+ years. Even if you won't be in the room, the public areas aren't great either, whereas NYNY has the midway and roller coaster for kids, and an interesting theme with a few decent eateries.
Another reasonable choice in the same area not costing an arm and a leg would be Luxor.

We went to the Luxor when our kids were that age because they had a whole floor of video games and things for teens to do. Don't know if it is still there or not. Luxor is reasonably priced. Didn't care for the Excaliber(stayed there when it was new).

Tandoori has it right. If you look up "cheese" in a dictionary, you'll find a picture of the Excalibur. It might be enough to keep a 4 or 5 year-old charmed for a day or two, but not 9, 12 and 14 year-olds.
The hotel is not even on the strip. Stay anywhere else.

We stayed at the Luxor which my 14-year-old son loved, and I thought the room was very nice, not luxurious but imaginative and comfortable. It was a short walk to the mid-strip which is where I would rather have been. Maybe next time.

I wouldn't say "barely on the strip".
It's across the street from Tropicana. Luxor and Mandalay Bay are even farther away. My husband and I stayed there when it was new. It was OK, but not luxurious. For one night, it can't hurt. Be warned, though, the buffet consistently gets bad reviews.

We were in
We were in LV recently and visited several hotels on the strip and of those we visited - Excalibur seemed to be in need of repair - noticed things like wall paper peeling off the walls in the restrooms and the restrooms not very clean. It just was not as nice as the others. I would check out some of the others - lots of good specials offered on hotels websites.
