We are getting ready for a trip in a couple weeks I am just itching for the time to pass - feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.
Anyway, since our trip hasn't happened yet, I don't have any specific recommendations except stuff we are PLANNING to do - LOL. But I thought I would post to ask what sorts of stuff you are interested in so that others can help.

This weekend will be the New Orleans Food and Wine Experience. The Royal Street Stroll is not to be missed, but I'm not sure if it's sold out yet. You basically get to stroll down Royal Street and taste fine food and wines.

If you're a foodie, then this is not to be missed.

If you're staying in the French Quarter or downtown areas, you're barely notice anything different and may actually be disappointed in the "sameness" of the city. I've heard this from other people, in fact. Outlying neighborhoods were whacked pretty good by Katrina and are far from complete. It remains a "tale of two cities."

Check into the Ritz Carlton before 4 PM. Reserve your wife a 90 minute massage while you stroll the FQ and get some exercise. Have a drink at The Ritz before you catch a cab to Emeril's for dinner. After dinner go to the FQ Bar in the Ritz and listen to Jeremy Davenport. Have lunch at Galatoire's the next morning. Arrive about 11:30/11:45. Ask for Richard for your waiter. Have the Oysters Brochette, a Crab Meat Maison Salad and the Trout with crab meat on top. Have dinner that night at NOLA, Peristyle, Bayona or Brightsen's. Next day tour around on the FQ on foot. Go by the FQ Market, Royal St., sit on a bench watching the river go by, stroll around the FQ, and if you have time take a trip out towards Tulane and Uptown. You might want to have dinner out there before you come back to your room. Commander's Palace is nice. Also Delmonico's. That should get you about ready to come home. I forgot Clancy's which is out towards Tulane. Have fun.

Dan - that is interesting that people have complained about the "sameness" of the city pre and post-Katrina. I would think that people would be relieved that the whole place wasn't destroyed, but then again, I guess it comes down to expectations - people expect it to be a certain way.

Thanks for all the responses and suggestions. We're staying at the Sheraton on Canal and already have reservations for Emiril's on Sunday night. I am almost packed and I'm so excited! I'll post when I get back.

Our weekend in New Orleans was fantastic. For the most part, the French Quarter is business as usual. Emeril's was delicious and very classy and the beignet were just like I remembered!
