hilton garden inn del mar?
Hi there - there's a new Hilton Garden Inn opening near Del Mar, CA, and i was wondering if anyone knows the area or has seen it... from their site, "Located in Torrey Hills, the Hilton Garden Inn- San Diego/ Del Mar provides a convenient and tranquil place to stay. Just north of the I-5 and I-805 split, Hilton Garden Inn is within easy access to many major attractions." Of course they say that, but does anyone know if this sounds like a good spot to visit friends in Del Mar? Is it truly "tranquil and convenient"? Nothing on Tripadvisor yet, so thanks for your help...

I don't know it miss emery but the term Torrey Hills makes me think it is in a new area of generic sea of homes. If it is new, it should be clean. It is probably perfectly serviceable for visiting friends in the area. If you have a great rate, I'd go for it. Is it the nicest best place for a unique Del Mar experience? Probably not. You'd have to do The Lodge at Torrey Pines or Auberge Del Mar or Estancia in La Jolla for that. Estancia sometimes has rates as low as $199/night and it is really gorgeous, IMO. Love their bars; I go there often.

Thanks for your help, ncounty. I would love to stay at the Estancia, in particular, but I am heading your way for memorial day weekend, and they are looking pretty pricey around then, unfortunately! You are right to predict the Garden Inn being clean and fresh; I'm just hoping construction is complete and that it's not right on a highway or something. Oh well - it's just a few nights, and it's cheap enough to not lose sleep over. Thanks again -

The location is not spectacular. It is in the middle of a suburb with nothing in walking distance. It is right next to the interstate, I am wondering if you can hear the noise. If you look just for a place to stay overnight, it might be the right place.
If you like a scenic view, beach access, opportunity for a nice stroll in the neighborhood, a good selection of restaurants in boutiques in easy walking distance, then choose one of the many fine hotels in La Jolla.

Can't comment on this specific HGI, but have never been disapointed. They always have a refrig/micrwave, very clean, new beds that you can adjust for comfort, great desk chair. They are well-built and noise is not an issue. I have stayed in several fairly near the road and road noise is not an issue. Airport locations-never hear a plane.
I was next door to a room full of teens last week and didn't hear a thing except when I was out in the hallway-and they were having a great loud time!

We are going to San Diego in May and have reservations at the Homewood Suites Del Mar-they have breakfast and afternoon snacks and drinks(weekdays) included. You will also have more room with a suite. I am guessing this hotel is in the same area as the Hilton Garden Inn.
