Stratford Inn Best Western Del Mar
Anyone stayed at the Stratford Inn? I've driven past it, and it looks like a nice place. The rates are under $100, and it appears to be beachfront. Is there actually a beach? Is this a nice place?

rturanc,
I have stayed there- but it has been a long time ago, I would guess about 10 years. Have stayed in the area quite a bit since, but never happened to end up at the Stratford Inn, though. This, however, does not mean that it wasn't any good.
Here's what I can remember: It is comparably intimate. Very clean, if a bit nondestinct. It is basically a typical smaller Best Western property, and if I am correct, I think they are (or at least have been for a while) associated with this chain.
It is not exactly beachfront, as I recall, there is some shrubbery behind it- or in between to the water, which is visible as I think I can recall, though. I cannot confirm whether there is a beach adjacent to that shrubs.
It is not in the league of the Auberge Del Mar or the La Valencia or Hotel Del- but I does not claim to be and I guess you would not expect that.
If you can get a rate in that wonderful area for under $ 100,-, I would say this is reasonable and you can go for it, if it has maintained the standards that I recall and put forward here!

I was there too when it was just the Straford and that was about ten years ago too. It was clean then and comfortable. I am sure that if Best Western has taken it over, they probably have kept the same standards. It was a reasonable price then and hopefully still is. It is close to the beach and everything around Del Mar and the La Jolla.
