Emory College Trip - Hotel Recommendations

I am planning to take my daughter to visit Emory University at the end of April. I would like to stay at a hotel where she will get a real feel for the school and the area. The hotels on campus are booked for an event. The Marriott Suites Midtown has been suggested, as well as the Buckhead area. Any suggestions? Thanks

Look in the Decatur area. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Conference Center on Clairmont Ave. last spring. It was quite nice with a good restaurant (and a nearby McDonalds if that suits you better) We were close to the Emory Campus.

I would also suggest the Decatur area which is close by. HI has an Express that is very close to Emory in addition to the one in Decatur. We stayed there in Nov when my step-daughter toured Emory - p.s. she loved the campus - be sure not to bring any Pepsi products on campus though!

Try the Emory Conference Center hotel. The Holiday Inn Express on N. Decatur Road is probably closer. There's a Holiday Inn in Decatur too - a more walkable location.

To get a "feel" of the area, I'd choose Midtown over Buckhead. Midtown and Decatur would probably be more like the Emory experience than Buckhead.

Oh, please stay at The Emory Conference Center. I've stayed many times and weeks at a time. It's one of my favorite hotels. The rooms are your normal nice hotel rooms(good beds), the lobby is hugh and beautiful. There is a nice pool, game room and the dining is very good for hotel food. What sets it apart for me is the staff. You may be able to get a good rate as you are visiting Emory? I did because my son-in-law was on the hospital staff and he could get me great rates.

One of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta is at the Emory Conference Center. I "lost" it when it moved a few years ago - and delighted when I learned where it had move to!

Le Giverny Bistro

1. Go to http://local.google.com/
2. Search for Emory University
3. Zoom in to the general area
4. Type Hotels in the search box
5. If you don't find anything suitable, zoom out a little.

Hmmm... I guess I'm missing the point somehow. Google searches vs personal experiences with hotel/ locale.

Even the website hotel listings are informative but most don't give what the OP asked about "real feel for the school and the area". I love the Hotel Indigo, but it's not really the Emory "feel" and can be in the midst of Midtown traffic. I love the 4S - but definitely neither - the feel of school/area. I wouldn't stay at the Hampton Inn in Stone Mountain to visit Emory and wouldn't stay at the Radison at Northlake at all.

Oh, well. Hope msal finds what she's looking for - via google of Fodorite's suggestions.

So many hotels are mentioned in this post, the google map will help decide what hotel works logistically without going through the hassle of a booking site to map all the hotels.
Takes a second and puts all the hotels right there... obviously you still have to decide which hotel you want and thats where the personal experiences come in.

Yep, but on the first two pages of the google listings there are only a VERY few that I would actually stay at - or recommend to friends or family. The closest don't always show up first on google maps - it's a flaw in the system. And, some of the ones on the first two pages are VERY iffy. Very.

Emory Conference Center is right at Emory and The Emory Inn is connected to it by a walk-way and is across the street from CDC.
When I lived on St. Simons I'd go up to Atlanta to visit my daughter and family. Sometimes she didn't have room for both my son and I. I checked all the lodging around Decatur and always came back to Emory C. C. I do remember a B&B someplace near the campus. I did not check it out. I was always too happy were I was.

I can't believe The Doubletree Hotel at North Druid Hills wasn't mentioned! This hotel is 2-3 miles from Emory, has shuttle service to Emory -AND- Buckhead malls and dining, gorgeous, and the amazing CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES. Our friends even got $74 Emory Rate when they were down in May.
Their phone number is 404-321-4174.
