Place to stay in Rapid City

My husband and I (early 50s) are planning to stay in Rapid City for 4 nights in June as a "base" to visit the Badlands, Custer St. Park, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Spearfish and Devils Tower. Any suggestions of a nice place to stay? (nothing rustic please). Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

We loved the Alex Johnson Hotel. It is right downtown and within walking distance to The Firehouse Brewing Company and Bottacelli (not sure of the spelling)
The Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn is also nice.

I agree that the Alex Johnson historic hotel would be a good base location - the Firehouse Brewery (good food) is on the next block, as is a large Native American art store.
Another choice, closer to Spearfish/
Deadwood & the way to Devils Tower is the Holiday Inn Express/Casino in Deadwood. Very nice with reasonable rates.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Rushmore Plaza and can also vouch for it- a very nice hotel, and the staff was exceptional in attending to our needs.

We stayed in the Holiday Inn as well and liked it. The only downside is that you would have a long walk/short drive to downtown, which is a nice area with some good restaurants. The Holiday Inn does have a decent restaurant but we also ate at Bottacelli and enjoyed it.

My husband and I stayed last summer at the Comfort Inn Suites on Fairmont Dr and were very pleased. Rates were quite reasonable, staff was excellent and just a great place to stay.
