Door County Suggestions

Our family is in the throws of trying to plan a vacation for the first week of August. I know we are a bit late in planning, but hope to find a resort/condo to relax at.

We typically have gone further north from where we live (Duluth, MN) and stayed on the Northshore of Lake Superior. Enjoy hiking, biking, walking, etc. However, the MN Northshore is all booked up.

We have never been to Door County and thought this could be an option. We know nothing about Door County and could use recommendations on the general area to stay and possibly lodging options.

We prefer a condo arrangement if possible so that we can cook many of our own meals.

Thanks

We've stayed at the Scandinavian Lodge in Sister Bay. It has nice condos and we've been happy with it.

Although we did not stay in Fish Creek we wished that we had. It is next to the State Park and in the center of Door County: http://visitfishcreek.com/

I recommend you check out the Square Rigger Lodge, in Jacksonport - referred to as the "Quiet side of Door County" - just south of Bailey's Harbor and on Lake Michigan. We've stayed there two years in a row and loved it. The Square Rigger Lodge has hotel rooms that face Lake Michigan and also two housekeeping units, which are like small townhouses. There are also cottages right on the lake that are charming. Right next door is Bley's Groceries where you can stock up on all needed food supplies. They even have a meat counter with their homemade Brats. The Square Rigger has a restaurant that serves an excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner and also has free coffee for anyone staying there. There are also a couple restaurants in the town as well as a bakery. Everything is in walking distance. Bailey's Harbor is about 10 min. up the road and Fish Creek, etc. are about 10 min. more. One more important point - the Square Rigger Lodge has the reputation of having one of the best Fish Boils in Door County; we tried it and agreed. We also ate several breakfasts and a dinner in the restaurant and our meals were excellent. I recommend that you check out the Square Rigger. Here's there online site - http://squareriggerlodge.com/
