Charleston - We have a week, should we spend it all in Charleston?
Plan on going some time in Sept/early October. I can keep myself entertained with looking/touring at the homes, but was wondering if a week is too long.
We are not the type that get up and out before the sun rises and not stop before the sun goes down. We enjoy a leisurely vacation. We usually plan 1-2 things to do per day and are flexible is something more entertaining arises.
Eating well is high on my husband's fun-things-to-do list. Photography is high on my fun-things-to-do list.
We have been to Savannah, so would not need to re-visit on this trip.
Thanks in advance for your knowledgeable replies.

At that pace, you will not be bored in Charleston the entire week. The food is great and there is a plethora of photographic opportunities. That said there are some nice places very nearby as well as some that make easy day trips too if you like.

That's a great time to visit. I don't think a week here is too long.
I think you should take either a walking tour (get Ed Grimbell if you can) or take a carriage ride. You can get acclimated to the area and pick places you want to visit again. The restaurant choices are phenomenal. You can visit the beaches, the plantations, or the ACE basin if you get tired of walking around the Historic District.

Boy, is your style different from mine.
I'm up and out early taking photos, then I come back for my wife and have breakfast.
Depending where we are I might leave her after dinner and go out taking more photos.

Myer - I spied your photos earlier today in another Charleston thread. You were a lot of help in guiding me on our SW national park trip last year (well 2010). I really enjoy looking at your pictures. Thanks for sharing.

YOu could drive up the coast to Georgetown for the day and enjoy that a lot. There are a couple of plantation houses on the way, and the SeeWee restaurant just outside of MT.pleasant maybe to have dinner on the way home.
Go a bit further up the road to Pawley's Island and drive around the historic district there.
If you wanted to have dinner in Pawley's (it's about an hour and a half drive back to Charleston) you could eat at Frank's there.
Also just a tad "further" up the road is Brookgreen Gardens with beautiful gardens and sculptures and art by Anna Huntington. It is VERY interesting.
I think it would make a nice day trip.

Bowen's Island? Yeah, it's the best. But the oysters won't really be good until the weather gets colder. The other fun divey kind of place is the Wreck in Mt Pleasant.
I love fried pickles. Now I'm hungry.
