We have just decided to go to Gettysburg and Harpers Ferry over July 4th. Can you recommend accommodations in either place? Thanks

I would recommend the Quality Inn or Best Western in Gettysburg. I would also recommend you make reservations soon as the re-inactors are there during this time july 1-3 in which the battle is reinacted. I don't want you to think I am crazy, but Gettysburg is VERY haunted, espically during this time of year...stay in a larger hotel and away from the smaller B&B's. I have been there many many times. So if you don't want to get spooked, stay in a larger hotel.
gettysburg is one of the most haunted places in the country...and the ghosts become more active during the aniversary of the battle.

Thanks Annabel
Actually, I wouldn't mind meeting a ghost. I called the Quality Inn and they are already booked up. So is the Best Western (as is most of the town) EXCEPT the Best Western has a quest house across the street from them and I got it. Not cheap, but I got it. Thanks again.

I was going to recommend the Battlefield Inn B&B - built on the south cavalry battlefield w/ 4 Union and 4 Confederate rms, lectures in AM following a great breakfast, ghost stories on wkends. Have to drive to reach other sites, but my children and I really enjoyed it.

The Inn at Buckeystown (near Frederick Maryland) is about half-way between Gettysburg & Harpersferry. The Antietim National Battlefield is also in the area. The Maryland Symphany Orchestra always performs during the fireworks at Atietem on the 4th. It is very moving.
