Three of us are going to Asheville for a 3 night stay. Any thoughts on where to stay and what to do? We will be there mid-March.

We've stayed in the Hayward Park Hotel (downtown) and the Grove Park Inn (out but not too far). Depending upon when you're traveling you can get a fabulous rate at Grove Park, where staying is the experience--or a lot of it. The Hayward is not deluxe but the rooms are enormous, more than big enough for the three of you with a rollaway.

Those are my only recommendations; although I am there several times a year we usually stay with family in Montreat. You won't have trouble finding things to do. There is a nice museum, a good civic center that books great music acts, shops and restaurants in downtown (all walkable), the Biltmore House to tour, and hiking everywhere.

Celtic Woman, the Asheville Symphony (New World Symphony), the Harlem Globetrotters and some sort of home show:

There's also a nature center---lots of choice of activity.

I agree on the Grove Park Inn. If you're not on a tight budget.

We stayed at The Residence's at Biltmore, these were apartments that had been convereted to a hotel, nice part is they have multiple bedrooms, a seperate living space and a full kitchen. And although we don't usually "cook" while we vacation, we were totally exhausted one night, and just popped a frozen pizza in the oven and warmed up left overs from the corner kitchen.

Grove Park Inn is a large hotel complex away from the main attractions of Asheville. We stayed at one of the historical inns called The Black Walnut which was lovely. Perhaps you should look into other historical B&B inn's as there are many in Asheville.

In terms of attractions, the historical trolley is a must, visting Biltmore and having BBQ at 12 Bones. There may be some local music /art events on as well.

Grove Park Inn is definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately, they added a spa behind the hotel which blocks the wonderful view it used to have. But...some may be happy to have the spa available. The rooms in the newer wings are more modern than those in the original hotel. Even if you stay elsewhere, it is worth a visit for a meal or a drink. There are large photos on the walls showing the construction of the hotel, which are quite fascinating.

Another place that gets high marks, but I've never stayed there, is the Richmond Hill Inn.

Thanks, so much! Interestingly, Grove Park is full. Will check out the others. Have a tentative reservation at Homewood Suites, though. Love the ideas for what to do!

check out Oakland Cottage B&B, www.oaklandcottage.com. It is 1 mile north of Biltmore Village and the entrance to the Biltmore Estate and 2 miles soutn of Historic downtown Asheville.

Sorry to hijack here- but I was just going to ask the same thing! We are going in early April for 2 days/nights with our 1 year old, and interested in an inn/B&B type place (budget $150 or less). The Oakland Cottage looks nice and seems to welcome children, and my understanding is that most B&B's don't. Anyone know another nice place to stay with kids? She doesn't need to be entertained by the place, because she's so little- I just want a place were we won't get dirty looks/be disturbing honeymooners/etc. with typical baby behavior.

If you like something more rustic go to Willow Winds which is just SE of Asheville about 15 minutes from downtown. It's really a great outdoors retreat with excellent facilities. Biltmore Estate is just minutes away and the Blue Ridge Parkway is also close.
