Quick packing question - carry-on liquid

I thought I had heard that liquids had to be in their manufacturer-marked 3 oz. bottle. However, I can't really find exactly that on the TSA web page. What it says is that they have to be in marked 3 oz. or less bottles. I have a little 2 oz. plastic spray bottle that I usually put some hair stuff in (very difficult to find in less than 4 oz bottles). It is marked on the sticker as 2 oz., but not marked by a manufacturer of the product.
I'm not sure if my post is making sense, but we are leaving for Germany today with carry-ons and I'd really like my hair product to come, too, if possible!
Thanks for any help!

The liquid or gel items do have to be 3 oz. or less, but not in the manufacturer's own bottle. I have travelled several times since this restriction went into effect and I use small travel size containers that I have put small quantities of product from larger bottles at home.

As long as the liquids or gels were in the small containers in the zip lock bag as designated, I had no problems.

Yes, I have read this page and several others from the TSA. It does not answer the question of whether the container must be marked by the manufacturer of the product or not.

Can I just rant here for a second? I keep looking for those small 3 oz. empty bottles to put my own products in, and they are always 4 oz.! A few months ago, I was stopped at security and the TSA clown threw out a couple of things because even though the product in the bottles was clearly no more than 3 oz., the bottles themselves were more than that. Argh.

Same thing happened to me. They discarded 1/2 of a 4 oz. bottle of sunscreen, even though there was only 2 oz. of product!

Try the Container Store, all types of small bottles at or under 3 oz.

I put some liquid in an unmarked bottle - using an old prescription bottle without the label - no questions!

Make sure your ziplok plastic bag is in that container they provide, not inside a purse or a bag.

My daughter had manufacturer's bottles in a qt. size zip lock bag and they let her through. Although, it's better to follow the rules exactly.

I believe the term "marked" means that the bottle is supposed to have the size imprinted on it, not that it has to be marked with the product name. I don't know if all security folks would actually look for that mark though.

My husband had an argument with a TSA agent about whether or not the bottles had to be labeled; the agent threw out the bottles. Since my husband knew he was right, he wrote a letter to the head of TSA at the airport, who confirmed that the bottles do not need to be labeled. He know travels with that letter just in case! My husband was right but it didn't help him at the time... It is amazing what people willdo when they get a little power!

Kerry, you comment made me chuckle as my father who was raised in Australia and rode the streetcars a lot evidently didn't get along the with conductors. Consequently my father always called those with a bit of power because they wore a uniform the "streetcar conductor syndrom".
