Vienna Heurigen Recommendations?

We are going to be in Vienna for a weekend in early December and would like to have dinner at a Heurigen. I would appreciate any recommendations for Heurigens that can be reached using public transportation.

The village of Grinzing is reachable by tram from the center of Vienna--it's almost nothing but heurigen. It has been too long ago for me to remember a specific one but the area is very lively, a lot of fun, good basic food and quite touristy but I enjoyed it very much. Google: Grinzing.

One of the top heurigens in Grinzing is Mayer am Pfarrplatz. www.pfarrplatz.at/start.htm

I concur with Cathinjoetown. Just go to Grinzing and take your pick. Sometimes people here will say it's too touristy, but I thought it was a fun experience. Have a great trip!

We went to one, did not remember the name, so we asked our Viennese acquaintance who took us there:

the name of the heurige was "zum weihrauch" - here their homepage http://www.zumweihrauch.at/essen.html

Another place we liked for the food is Figl at Grinzingerstrasse 55. It used to be a branch of the famous Figlmueller in Vienna, but they sold it to another family, so they dropped the mueller name.

Figlmüller family may be surprised that they do not still own Figls.

This is the former Figlmüller Heuriger that received a complete renovation a few years ago and changed its image - and thus changed its name to reflect this new , more modern image.- if one looks to the Figlmüller website
www.figlmueller.at one finds all locations of Figlmüllers establishments listed including Figls. I believe one of the younger family members did renovations.
In fact the Figls website mentions ownership by the Figlmüller family ( Familie Figlmüller )
www.figls.at

If looking for a heuriger in this immediate area - just next door at #53 is Feuerwehrwagner - fewer tourists as this is not in the central area of Grinzing

www.feuerwehrwagner.at

an old family owned place with good wine various rooms and a nice garden in summer.
Easy access by Bus 38 A.

Bookmarking your recommendations. Can't believe I just got back from 9 weeks' travel and am ready to go again! I love Vienna but it will be a year or two before I get back.

We just got back and enjoyed our dinner with great fun and music at Weingut Heuriger Reinprecht. It's right on the main street of Grinzing. See their website at www.weingut-reinprecht.at

molker, good to hear that figls is still owned by the Figlmuellers because their food was really good, especially the Backhaendl chicken. I'm sorry that I didn't get to eat there last month. LOL, we just believed what my wife's relatives told us simply because they live in Vienna.

We liked the Heuriger Hirsch in Grinzing so much, we returned several times. Very good food and wine - the Christmas goose was especially tasty and the new wine was especially good, good prices, nice ambiance, convivial atmosphere and the patrons were mostly locals.
